Default Undersized Front Woofers - how to retro fit???

Well, I have been using this weekend to install my new gear. I went with Pioneer Premier head unit and component speakers (TS-D720c). Also have Premier TS-802P's for the rear (haven't touch them yet). Well, I put in the head unit (along with the HD and XM modules) mounted the tweeters in the sails and moved to the woofers and crossovers. Well, Crutchfield says the woofers fit, just need to drill new holes. No biggie. BUT... my door woofer holes are 6 inches, the mounting holes (inside edge to inside edge) is a little over 6 1/8 inches. I have an 05 GT and I've never upgraded the speakers on a PT. Is there a trick that I just don't know or see? Crutchfield included Dynamat Extreme speaker kits for free (the 10 X 10 sheets). Initially I was not going to use them. Now that I have already mounting the tweeters in the sails, I am hoping someone with more experience than I has a golden nugget of info or a recommended path. Maybe the Pioneers run small....figures.

I don't really understand your problem...are you saying that your brand new front door speakers are too big for the factory hole? Or too small?

You said "undersized" in your title so it's kinda misleading to me...what's undersized...the hole or the spakers?

Hi Duster,

The problem seems to be the door hole is too large for the speakers (at least it is VERY close). I am concerned that if I attempt to drill new holes, they will be so close to the edge of the door hole that they will basically end up making a slot, not a hole. Is this a normal issue? Again, Crutchfield showed these speakers as "fit", but the radius of the hole pattern on the factory speaker is longer than the radius of the hole pattern on the new speakers. The radius of the mounting hole pattern on the new speakers is only slightly longer than the radius of the hole in the door.

The website says those speakers are 6 3/4". Which should be a tad large. I would make sure I received the correct speakers and not a set of 5 1/4".

Sorry guys! Noobe mistake. The instructions on the box are not the most informative. I had assumed I needed to use the speaker adapter brackets based on the height and shape of the factory units. Speaker adapter bracket is for 6 1/2 and is not needed for 6 3/4. The extremely large hole pattern of the factory units threw me for a curve. The speakers are as ordered. The installer (yours truly) is a little slow....
