Steve

No you are proably right. When I put the car into the shop to have the Stereo installed, I made the mistake of looking through some of the books that were there. Well to make a long story short. $5K+ or so later I was "almost done. Rims/tires/burglar alarm/Stereo/springs/shocks Etc. So a lot of the actual costs are "lumped" into that figure. I knew basically what the retail prices were for the JL audio line and etc so when I got the estimate for everything with installation included, I was happy. My final invoice has a list of items and then the total for the whole shooting match. My initial invoice has a figure of $250.00 for the stealth sub which had to be made as there were none on the shelf and they needed a non-refundable deposit to order it right away. So we started that off and then went from there.

Hope this helps

The name of the place is Audio Excellence in San Diego Ca, phone number (619) 472-2955, ask for Kenny. They are busy so don't be suprised if you have to wait to talk to him.

Thanks for the info.

I'll be taking the pics to my installer to see if he can do something similar.

My plan is to spend some money on the stereo this winter.

Years ago Stillwater designs (Kicker) made a plastic box for marine & outdoor use. It was a wedge shape & in BRIGHT colors ( like neon pink & green. Anyway, they would get boomy when cranked up. So what we would do is open them up & glue a 1"x1" strip of wood along the back wall (longest wall) of the enclosure. Then another strip from the one we glued in 1st to the back of the speaker. Kinda like a support brace. Making sur we did not cover the vent hole in the rear of speaker magnet.
We used PL200 contrustion adhesive, let it dri for 2 days then reinstalled the boxes. They really rocked now cause the plastic panels did not flex anymore.
I'm not saying the the other boxes will do the same thing but heres a way to compensate for it.

Macster: Looks even better with the grill cover in place - even if it's not as stealth as the first pic. Super nice job mate!

GR8FLPT: Yep I was concerned about that too. If they had just been constructed from the ABS I woulda passed but (according to their specs and after seeing one of their other models you can tell by the weight/feel of it) they (Q-Logic) use the same materials as any of their other boxes but rather than covering it with carpet it's encased in the ABS. Still waiting for it to be delivered (/rude SoundDomain) or I'd give more specs. Nice tip though for those that may have one of the old marine ones collecting dust somewhere.

I thought it was $450 also. & that includes a 10W1 woofer. Anyone know what the cuft volume of the stealth box is? I'm working on a idea of 2 8" subs in the same location. Its gonna be real tight but ifit works it should kick out some real tight bass.

Also scoping out the idea of 2 subs under front seats. (1 under each)
