Default Amp wiring advice needed...

Still happy (for the moment ) with the six disc in dash factory head unit so I'm keeping it for the time being. This will be my first time hooking in an amp with a head unit that doesn't have the remote connection (at least I don't think the factory unit does). I'm putting in a Sony amp and just wondering where I should be hooking the remote lead. I saw in an article on PTDIY (http://www.ptdoityourself.net/ptsubaltguide.html) the fella seemed to have hooked it through the power plug in the trunk but he may have been talking about just the main power lead. And mines pulling a bit more than the 30w internal amp he had in the Kenwood he was installing so I'm not too sure it'd hold.

Anyhow, I'm a bit lost so if anyone has had to make the same adjustment or just knows off hand please fill me in on what ya did!

Beacon, The remote on/off lead for the amplifier either energizes a relay, or a low power electrical component in the amplifier. The load of the amp is handled on the Constant +12v battery lead. I have a tri amp setup, all 3 reomte on wires are connected together in the amp array, and 1 wire connecting all 3 leads to the switched on 12v source. In my case I used the switched lead on the head unit. In any case I have used 1 5A fuse on that lead and it works fine. There is no high current load on the remote on lead, so you will be safe wiring it to any switched 12v source. BTW I have over 800 watts of amp power turned on remotely this way. (see the last pic in my signature 3 amps located below the 2 12" subs) The 12v battery lead carries the load, so wiring that is a different animal. Especially in my case........

G_H: Thanks a ton for the break down - I know enough to get by but I haven't felt comfortable messing with vehicle electrical systems since my '72 K5, so you helped me out more than you know. I'd already mapped out the route for the main 12v power line just wasn't sure where to nail the remote lead to. I'm only going to be pushing around 100w per channel so I'm nowhere near as involved as your rig. (Which is a beast btw hehe).
