Default Way to make radio stay on after turn car off?

I really like my '03 GT, but I sure would like for my radio to stay on (like it does in my Mom's Oldsmobubble) after I turn the car off and until I open my door.

Is there a relatively easy way to do that, or am I out of luck?

Yes, I know I can turn the car off and then go to the Accessory position to continue listening to the radio, but there is a couple seconds of delay between turning the car off and rotating the key to Accessory that's aggravating to me. Surely if GM can do it, we can do it!

Welcome to the forum. I love questions like this. Let's see if anyone can answer this. [|)]

My answer is to wire the stereo to an always hot fuse. The only problem is that you will forget to turn it off and kill the battery.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Keep those questions coming though.

I, too, would like this feature. I have a "system" wired OEM-style. If I ever konk the motor [)] the power shuts down and the stereo faceplate begins retracting, etc.

I'm wondering if there's even some kind of timer (say 15 seconds) that would eliminate this issue.

IT can be done but not sure how to wire it in a pt.

Basicaly you wire it straight to the battery, or constant power of some kind. But in that wire you install a switch that will open or close with a "status change" ( power wire turning on or off ). I beleave it is called a "latching relay". In other words it sort of works like a relay. but will turn on or off with a secondary input ie.... status change- it turns on then stays on till the status changes then stays off. The bigest problem is finding a secondary wire that does what you want. this kind of switch is not that big and could be hidden under the dash. The dome light would work as it only is powered when you open the door. but it will turn the radio off if the passenger gets out.

a pic...

So the "status change" would be ignition power=off and the other change would be ignition power=on(?) Therefore IGN=off is no power (thus avoiding unexpected battery drain) and IGN=on means uninterupted power during car idling as well as during starter engaugement. That's my goal; keep full stereo power while starting the car.

That link to the relay http://www.brigarelectronics.com/Mer...ategory_Code=R states 24VDC. Will that work in a car and is anybody else willing to determine splices for the radio for both the starter issue and the door switch for that Oldfolksmobile?

Use the dome light and make your passengers climb out the window.

That is just a sample of what it looks like. ( the first pic i found ) but there is 12v ones.

Status change could be a rise or drop in voltage, say 4v constant and jump tp 12v. or the other way. A normal relay will work with a on/off wire. The bigist problem in a car is finding the wire that you want that is onlt affected by the driver. As noted above ... the dome loght works off all 5 doors. (hatch counts as 1 ) so any time it is opened it will shut off.

Aaa HAA IVE GOT IT!!!!! I just figured it out but it will take a bit of time..... ( the 2 wire version )
http://www.streetrodstuff.com/Products/1553/

Wire your normal relay switch wire to the battery but through this after it is put in the driver door. The wire will simply loop from one contact back out the other. So when the drivers door is opened the contact is broken. Turning off the radio. as long as the drivers door is closed the radio will play!!!

Would it be possible to tie it into the seatbelt circuit on the driver's side. When your seatbelt it buckled the radio is on, when seatbelt is unbuckled, radio is off. Saftey and music in one click.

Kind of......The belt does have a electrical component that may be able to be tapped to run a relay. The "But" is that both seats have it i think.
