Default "Swiss Cheesing" Door Speaker Panel

Door speakers are not getting sound up to my ears. I want to "Swiss Cheese" the top and side (inside the map pocket) of the door panel around the OEM speaker "grille".

I figure hole spacing is a matter of cutting a template out of graph paper, but drilling the holes is the issue.

I think the door panels would have to come off and attacked from the other side. But then you may lose control of the pattern, plus get plastic shredding. With the panels on, it's going to be tough getting the drill in for the odd angles.

I've already seen the posts about clear-cutting the grille, but don't want to do that. Any helpful hints out there?

You may try using a "greenlee" type hole saw, that would allow you to pinprick the center of the hole and should prevent tearing of your pattern after you remove the panels. They should be found in your local Home Depot etc in the electrical or woodworking section. They do come in many sizes depending on the size needed.

I only pulled off the black fiber covering off the door and dash speakers. This made an improvement without any visual changes.
It's a free and concealed mod.

CUTTING THE TOP WILL NOT HELP. FACTORY POSITIONING IS THE PROBELM. YOU WILL LOSE SOUND IF YOU CUT BEHIND THE SPEAKER. DO YOU HAVE THE FACYORY RADIO? AN UPGRADE WOULD HELP Sony's new head units to enhance in-car acoustics. The units feature DSO, Sony's proprietary dynamic soundstage organizer that raises the soundstage from a low position in the door,

I have the Kenwood KDC-X859 deck and the KAC-959 5 channel amp. Blaupunkt Overdrive 6 3/4 components in the doors. Tweeters are in the dash. The sound is nice, but I want to see if it can be detailed out better. You're right, the factory wasn't thinking when they designed the door speaker.

How is it that opening up the OEM surround will not help somewhat? The Blaupunkt is oversized for the door, so the original panel-to-speaker gasket seal is useless. Are there adapters that will tilt the speaker upward?

WHAT I SEEN TO UPGRADE THE FRONT STAGE I CUSTOM KICK PANELS THAT AIM THE SPEAKERS MORE DIRECTLY AT YOU. MOST COMMONLY A 6.5" AND A TWEETERS SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU HAVE I THE DOORS. Q-FORMS MAKES IT FOR MANY CARS BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN ONE FOR A PT. IF YOU NEED ONE MADE CUSTOM I KNOW SEVERAL SHOPS THAT MAKE THEM

I've seen a couple of PTs over time with the door inserts replaced with custom fiberglass pieces that do just that! The most memorable was the Panasonic PT of a couple years ago. I cannot find any more pics of this beautiful Inferno Red car, but all four doors had matching red panels loaded with speakers. Just excellent [?]

Wonder what a shop would want to do something like that... and put it into production? Any thoughts MEDIAN?
