Default Cool, neat and nifty on my radio.

Sitting at a red light the other day, I looked at the display on my radio, I noticed the display scrolling by with the radio station name, call letters, artist and song name. I've seen several of the stations names show up(96 rock,Z93,99X), but never the song info.

I did read the manual when I got the car and learned what the PTY button is for on the radio but that's all I thought it was going to show was the station name.

I've noticed so far it's only on the stations owned by ClearChannel.

I live near Atlanta GA btw

Laugh all you want, It's new and cool to me
I may live in my own little world, but it's o.k., they know me here[)]

The dealer showed me that during demo ride - I play CDs I burn myself exclusively, so I'd forgotten about that - you're right, it isn't all stations. I believe you can also scan just for the type of station you want (Classic Rock).[?]

This just arrived here in the DC area the other week. I usually listen to the local oldies statin on my drive in and they were talking about it last week. I think they called it "RDS" (does that sound right) and the explanation is that it is something that is added to the FM carrier wave that allows RDS equipped radios to show the title and artist name (my wife gets it in her new Nissan Quest also).

I am used to it on my satellite radio as you get it on all of the streams, but it's nice to see it on broadcast radio (my wife gets it in her new Nissan Quest also). Now if only it were more like satellite radio and got rid of those terminally brain dead adverts..... Fat chance!

This link will give a bit more info about the Radio Data System or RDS.
