Most installers will wire the remote wire into the back of the headunit. In my 01, I have a cigarette lighter next to the jack in the trunk, and this was a great place for the remote wire, so I wired it there. No issues whatsoever, so I would recommend that location.

Mulligandog,
Can you tell me which pin/wire you used in the back of the head unit? I am having the same challenge you did. Thanks. |

Should be the blue one...

Thanks Arthur. I did not specify, but I am trying to add an amp and subs to my factory cd player. There is a blue and blue and white wire paired together. Is that the one you are referring to? I thought since it was paired it might be one of the speaker wires. I have a 2004 base model with 5 speed. Thanks for your response.

From the head unit it will be blue (like electric blue rather than dark blue) and it will not be paired with anything else. There will be no wire from the Cruiser end since you bring the wire from the remote connection on the amp to the blue wire on the back of the head unit. Not sure if the factory head unit has this wire out but if not you can use the yellow as a backup - this one is the accessory power and only gets live when the ignition is on. The difference will be that the amp will be on even if the radio is not.

Thanks again Arthur. I will give it another try tonight. I am using a Scosche high/low converterr to add an amp and subs I already have until I can afford to invest in a decent head unit. There are four paired wires in the wiring harness that appear to be the speaker wires. I was able to trace a brown & brown and blue wire as well as a pair of green wires to the rear speakers though the wires going into left rear had a different green and black stripe than what I found on the harness. Any idea which is which?

Not really no, they will be in pairs out of the unit but no idea what the PT uses deep down inside since I just ran a couple of wires through the car to the amp from the high out on my head unit.
Some research shows the light blue or light blue/white is the amp-on lead. Even more gets this: Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Pink Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Red/White Car Radio Ground Wire: Black Car Radio Illumination Wire: Black/Yellow Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: N/A Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: N/A Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A Car Stereo Amplifier Location: N/A Car Audio Front Speakers Size: N/A Car Audio Front Speakers Location: N/A Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Green Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Red/Brown Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Purple/Green Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Blue/Red Car Audio Rear Speakers Size: N/A Car Audio Rear Speakers Location: N/A Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown/Yellow Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown/Blue Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Blue/White Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Blue/Black ... so please try and not get confused - the above are from the car to the head unit (so are the wires that go out to the various bits of the car from the socket behind the unit) - the wires from an after-market head unit will likely be different.
