Default Double Dinn

Hey Guys,

Would like to replace the stock head unit with an Alpine unit with GPS etc..
Will a double Dinn fit in a 2006 GT?

Thanks

Plug n play?

Nope, least not for PT's up to '05. If it's the same for 06+, then no.

With the removal of the center panel, hacking away and modifying it?

Maybe.

If you insist on going with this Alpine headunit, I'd suggest you find a panel at a local Pick N Pull and work on that. This way if you ever go back to stock, or with a single-din headunit you've always got the stock center panel.

I don't believe the opening for the head unit in the '06 and up is double-DIN, I think it's an oddball 1.5 DIN. I know that I have a single DIN unit in there, in an adapter plate, and the bottom half that is filled is less than the height of the single DIN head unit, that tells me it's not a double-DIN opening. Guess you could modify that to make it fit but it'll be ugly.

Why not go with a single-DIN and a flip up display? I had a nice Kenwood Excelon that had a beautiful flip up display. I got rid of it, put it in the wife's car, cause I got tired of it blocking my vents, but it did work fine.

And no head unit, other than factory/OEM, is plug and play on the '06 and up because of that G-forsaken CAN buss. You have to get a cable adapter kit to make it work.

Wink Re: Double Dinn

I always been a big proponent of a single din.

If you get a quality head unit; 6 pre out's 4 volts per pre out; sat radio; ipod etc;

YOU CAN TAKE IT WITH YOU REGARDLESS OF WHICH CAR YOU GET IN THE FUTURE.

I know alot of people that put in a nice double din head unit in their car/suv. then when they sell/trade it; they can't re-use it.

I seen someone get a $1,000 double din, DVD player, Touch Screen, Navigation, Bluetooth; then not be able to use it because they got a new car which was single din.

On my 09 I simply used a standard wiring harness.. connected to the stock plug and then crimped to my CDA-105's hardness.

Only thing I had to do was wire the radio's harness sides 12volt to the cig lighter since yeah, due to crack buss there is no 12volt power in the stock harness.

Course my system was non premium audio...
