This is the cleanest and most functional build i have ever seen if your wanting to keep the shelf:
His build thread on ptcrew and other pics: PTCrew.com - Learn it or Burn it.

The way I would approach it; build the box first; Determine the cubic feet; then after it's all built and measured; look for subs that call for that cubic feet. Cubic Feet Formula = Length x Width x Height Cubic Feet Calculator - www.autocalculator.org ![]() 12" subs start @ .5 cubic feet each and can go all the way up to 2.5 cubic feet. Subs have all different demensions too. For example soundstream makes like 20 lines of subwoofers. Click on any sub; and it will tell you the Cubic feet; mounting depth etc. Every company puts out this info; JL audio, Rockford Fosgate; Pioneer, Kicker, whom ever. Soundstream - Subwoofers ![]() Many companies make shallow mount subs too. So your idea is def. do-able. *cubic feet is your friend. thats the thing thou, that shelf box only uses one of the shelf holders. i want to use both sets to make for a more stable box that wont realy fall of the shelfs or move around. so the box will be a lil taller then that.

If the box is designed similar to the shelf it shouldn't slide around. The trouble i see is, building it so that it will not only sit in the top and bottom supports but roll into place.
I hope that you understand what I am trying to say here. |

You need to go to the link where he posted the build to understand just how functional it is. It can be moved different postions just like the factory shelf.
Just like the factory shelf it really locks in pretty good and because of the weight its even more secure and as a bonus, it can even be placed upside down. He posted a lot of pics on his thread on ptcrew showing this.

Just make sure the box is air tight; and you know the cubic feet of the interior box.
- Another option to consider; is to use a shallow mount box. if your goal is to save space; this box will take up very little space. ![]() Rockford Fosgate P3L-S12 (09p3ls12) 4 ohms - Single 12" Loaded ![]() Power Acoustik THIN-13BX (thin13bx) 13" 700W Max, Single 4 ohm that would save a lot of time in the box construction. Just another option for you to consider. - here is a list of shallow mount subwoofers and boxes. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/searc...roduct_type=27 get creative. - |

naw, not trying to save space, just a small space on the floor for the amps and cappaciter (if needed) the objective im going for is to use both cargo shelf mounts (top and bottoms) to hold a semi big box, i dont use the back cargo area for anything besides when family comes to town, and to hold my box of car emergancy stuff and some needed tools (grocery stuff goes goes in the back seats)

Caps are really not worth it. If you are having dimming lights; there are better ways to help fix that. Caps don't add any anything to the electical system. All they do is provide power for a few seconds during a bass drop. When you get that far; let me know, you could do the big 3 upgrade; or use the "cap killer" Something like this will cost about the same; but actually add power to your electrical system Kinetik HC 600 (KHC600) 850 Amps 20 AH Car Battery Power Cell ![]() |
