I have searched but not found what I am looking for.
I just got my 2001 PT Cruiser out of the body shop and now my radio will not work. They disconnected the battery (I think they ran it dead) and now all I have on the radio is the flashing Bass & Treb lights. Any clue on how to get my radio working again? |

Well; I would call them, and bring it back to them. It's their job to get it back to you working. If the OEM radio is broken; buying another OEM is more expensive than a much better quality after market one. Here is a list of OEM prices. They told me they would fix it but that they did not know what was wrong so I thought I would check in here and see if it is something simple, I cannot imagine why I would need to replace the radio but one never knows if they don't ask.

Every radio has a small 10a fuse in the back of it.
it could be possible that is blown. It is also possible they didn't disconnect the battery from the start, and that could have overloaded the stock radio with to much electric. If the auto body can't fix it; that still isn't an excuse. Tell them you want to take it to a local car install place, and get it fixed/replaced. You shouldn't have to stress 1 second over this. It's all on them. If they don't know how to fix it, have them pay a professional. period. - Just curious, was there front end damage? Was the radio area in any way hit or damaged? - I think they probably didn't disconnect the battery. This is from a good friend Chrome, who recently spoke on this exact issue on another thread. They replaced the front driver fender and headlamp but it was a minor parking lot crash with no other damage.

You could go to a junk yard and pick an OEM one up cheap....

I guess I might have to let the shop do that, I was just wondering if it was a reset of some kind that I could do at home without giving my car up again.

Try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for about 10 minutes. Also step on the brake pedal a few times with the battery disconnected. That might reset the radio.

I have a 2001 PT Cruiser. There was only 1 OEM radio used in our cars. I still have my stock head unit, I recently took out. It's in good working condition. I also have the OEM speakers. If you want it; we can work something out for the head unit. maybe $35 bucks plus shipping. It will get to you in 2-3 days via USPS Priority mail; and I will give you a tracking number. If your down, I will make a thread in the Buy/sell forum. I sold something to another member; I am 110% legit. If nothing else works; at least it's another option. I can take a few pics for you of it. Last edited by SergeantPtCruiser; 09 May 2011 at 07:33 pm. |
