Default Tape Deck Auto Reverse

Hey all.

Since this thing has a tape deck I dug out an old cassette adapter for my iPod and gave it a try.

My problem is that the deck keeps thinking it is at the end of the tape so it auto reverses. Any way to disable the auto reverse function so this doesn't keep happening over and over again?

WOW, 8 track would have been cooler. Pending the "age" of the tape deck it may not have the option to turn auto reverse off. When auto reverse was introduced you didn't have a way to disable that option. Sony was the first manufacture that had a button or to push that would disable the auto reverse function. So unless you have something on the front of the head unit your toast.

Why not wire up a pair of rabbit ears and stick them on the roof.

If you have an Ipod; which is more advanced than even a CD player, it doesn't make much sense to play it on a tape deck.

A 80g Ipod costs $199, and a 160g costs $299;

Invest $100-$150 on a head unit that plays MP3's and Ipods.

I'd agree with Sergeant. Find another unit or even check out the wrecker yards for a factory deck if you want to keep the original look.

A head unit doesn't need to be expensive to listen to your Ipod.

Look for something with a front USB port, and a 3.5mm front jack

Dual XR4110 In-Dash MP3/WMA Car Stereo w/ USB, SD and Aux

Pros:
USB, 3.5mm jack

$49 (free shipping, free dash kit, free harness)

Also the reviews are shockingly good for the unit.

Cons:

This one has only 2 volt pre outs, and 1 set of pre outs, and it has a bad EQ.

for $150 ish you can get something really nice, but for $49, it might be a match for your needs.

Could also be an issue with the adapter itself. Had 1 that wasn't spinning free enough so the drag made the HU think it was at the end of the tape.

i gotta admit I have old memories of the tape deck converter used to play a portable cd player.

All of my memories of portable cd players are in black and white though. I don't think they made color memories back them.

This is what I'm thinking the problem is. I tried spinning the wheels on the adapter by hand and they were pretty tough to turn. I ordered a new adapter for $5 from e-bay... we'll see if it helps.

If I wanted to spend the cash I would certainly consider replacing the head unit with something that is more friendly to use.

As it stands. I'm trying to do this on the cheap. The iPod we have is a 5th Generation 30GB unit that I bought my wife for X-mas back in 2006. It's beat up, but it still works great.

I'm not a big audiophile or anything. Honestly the stock stereo and CD Player are fine... I was just going to rig up something so I could have a larger variety of tunes for the ride. If it doesn't work, no big deal.
