Ok, first of all I would like to tell you that I've been following this forum for some time and I think it's great and people are very helpful.
Here's the deal. I want to replace/upgrade my existing sound system by replacing the factory radio with the Sony CDX-MP80 receiver, adding the Signat Rom4 4x90w RMS Amplifier and two Pioneer 8inch speakers + a Pioneer Subwoofer. I intend to make holes for them on the plank behind the rear seats. First, I want to remove my existing car radio. I checked out the procedure and it seems easy. But once I remove it, how can I connect the wires to my new Sony receiver since the plugs don't match? And how do I fill in the gap that will be present once I replace the double din radio with the single din? So, I want to connect the existing speakers, radio antena and a PCI (if possible) to my Sony receiver... How can I achieve that? [:I] All kind of help is apritiated. Tnx. |

U.S., well first of all the factory stereo is really easy to remove, pop out the power window control box in the dash, behind there theres a single phillips head screw, remove it. then remove the heater control knobs, and pull around the edges of the panel to remove it. once thats off theres just 4 phillips screws holding the stereo in, take those out and unclip the wire harness from the back of the stereo, remove the antena connection and your done. You'll probably have to get an adapter for the antenna because chrysler uses some funky reversed antenna connector.
As far as connecting, all you need to do it hit the local car audio shop and get a kit for the pt, just tell em what your putting in and i'm sure then can find you an adapter plate to take up the excess space. I'm not sure how your sony is connected but if you're using amps, normally you have rca connections running from the head unit to the amps. if that's the case, should be, all you do is use the power and ground connections from the factor harness and leave the speaker wires untouched, run the rca cables through the car to the amps in the back and you're done, you can use premade RCA's any rca's will do, don't beleive the BS and go buying some really overpriced RCA. The other option, which is what i did, was to make your own, I used CAT5 network cable and that way with just one cable you can have up to 8 rcas connections.CAT 5 works really well because of its great shielding ability and as you probably know high bandwidth. Anyway, Then run you speaker wires to your amps, or if you want run the speaker wire from your amps back to the dash and connect em to the original factory wires. I'm choosing to do the latter for now just to avoid having to tear all the panels off and fish wires through the car. power for the amps car be run from the battery through the firewall, go up under the dash and find the hood release cable ,pull the grommet off and you'll have about a 2" hole to work with. good luck |
