Alright just get home from deployment and the wife puts me to work. She had purchased a remote start and bypass mod for her 01 cruiser and now wants me to install it. Ok I say I can probably do it. I do a lot of car audio stuff for me and friends can't be to hard. Well there is a lot more wires involved and I gotta say I'm intimidated by it. I did a quick search and didn't find anything real helpful so I am hoping someone knows of a good write up that lays it out. I'm talking wire locations and colors. If anyone does I would appreciate it. Also if there is anyone locale to OKC that would want to lend a hand for a case of beer hit me up.

Yea they are a pain i did car audio for 15 years and would not touch mine. I have a Viper remote start/alarm/keyless entry on mine, plus my conv top can go up and and down with a click on the remote and I have my trunk pop done.

There is a wire called a Neutral Safety Switch. It makes sure your car is in neutral.

sorry but they are a big pin in the ass to do,, iv done car audio for 20 years,, and would pay some one to do it that had a warrenty,,
my local guy does them for 99 installed to start,, we need a key so you ussaly have to give up one key, so they can get past the imbolizer ,, there are many ways but that is the easy way |

I am curious to know if you tackled the remote start install on your manual trans?
Warning, unsolicited advice coming up: Please take it to a professional. No, there is no risk of it starting and driving on it's own. The way remote starters are designed now, there is no way to actually leave it in gear, and be able to remote start it. If you don't go through a process when you park the car, it won't even try to remote start later when you press the button. On a side note, the neutral safety switch is not how it can tell if the car is in neutral. The actually use of the neutral safety switch, from back in the day was for automatic transmissions where you didn't need to step on the brake to shift from park. Anyway, not the point. |
