Hello everyone I have a question and I can't seem to find any answers. I hope someone will be able to help me!!!
My question is: I have an Alpine MRX-v60 5 channel digital amplifier and its birth certificate says it does 101w x 4 @ 2ohm RMS and 401w x 1 @ 2ohm RMS. I really wasn't paying too much attention when I ordered my subwoofer. The sub I ordered is an Infinity REF1250w. It's spec'd out at 300w RMS and 600 peak at @4 ohm. Will I blow the sub and/or my amplifier if I use my current configuration? Here is the list of what I have: H/U Pioneer Premier DEH-P960MP 5 Channel Amplifier Alpine MRX-V60 Front Speakers Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 Rear Speakers Infinity Kappa 693.9i Subwoofer Infinity Reference 1250w Amp. That amp shows 200 watts rms @ 4ohm and the sub shows its a single voice coil at 4 ohm rated for 300 watts so you will be fine.
Its the subs impedance that determines what the amps output is (IE: if you had a 2 ohm sub then it would output 300W. As for the birth cert., That is the true output above the spec rating and is a bonus for headroom. Adjust gains properly and it will be fine with that combo.

Thanks for the info! I was afraid I was gonna either blow the amp or sub or both!

how did your install go?
I recently installed the same amp in my PT. I am using the stock radio so I wired the amp in with the speaker level inputs. I have some inexpensive Boss Audio components up front and 2 ways in the back and the MOPAR sub. It sounds really good!

The whole install was a nightmare at first!! My step-dad decided he was gonna double check my "big 3" upgrade. When I put the new battery in I had to reverse the positive and negative terminals to make room for all the extra wiring. I had the battery terminals hooked up properly and my step-dad, knowing that the pt cruiser has reverse terminals, switched the positive and negative terminals and the proceeded to start the car! Luckily it only wiped the memory on the computer and all the dealership had to do was flash the ROM!
So back to the actual install. It was a smooth install. The pioneer re-eq and time alinement just made the system come alive! I am still playing with the crossovers and the gain settings. I also installed a volume knob for the sub output on the amplifier. I got it from crutchfield and its wonderful! I have a diverse palette when it comes to music! Anything from Tori Amos to Pretty Lights to Bjork! Then sprinkle in some classic rock. Tori Amos does not sound good with booming bass!!! I love the sound of the amp, it's a very warm sound almost tube like! It's pushing 5 channels and I can rest my hand on it and its only lukewarm! |
