Here's a pic of the sub, didn't get a shot of the new amp yet. ![]() Older picture from before I switched to Bermuda Blacks, but the trunk setup is the same. And yes, I get teased incessantly about how clean my trunk is.... The box the sub is in has a 2" strip of velcro hook side on bottom and at the back top edge. Even after my horrific wreck it never moved! |

The sticky I made covers the gain controls.
Too high a gain and you're going to cause distortion in an attempt to reach a volume at less than the required power (power that comes from the amp). Too low a gain and your sub will play at a lower than expected volume however the amp will be pushing alot of power to the sub itself. Here's why; an amp only puts out as much power to the sub as is required for said-volume. Just because an amp is rated @500 watts RMS/4ohms doesn't mean you're always using 500 watts. Let's say your sub is hooked up to said-amp for a 4ohm load, however depending on your volume+gain (let's just use volume to make it easier) you're not using the full 500 watts all the time. If your volume is at 1/4th, you're using roughly 25% of those 500 watts. As far as cross over goes, you can adjust and figure that out yourself with a quality 'reference' CD....preferably a well-recorded (not burned, but store-bought) disc that you're very familiar with. Turn off your subwoofer and adjust the cut-off for your door/interior speakers. This requires time and patience.....you'll change it a couple of times over the next few days and/or weeks. Once you've found the appropriate cut-off then you can start blending in your subwoofer. Try not to cut off your speakers at too high a frequency otherwise your subwoofer won't play the true 'sub-bass frequencies' efficiently because it's performing extra duty by playing what your midbass driver's cant achieve. This is often why you'll see 6 1/2" to 8" subwoofers implemented which often covers 60hz to 110hz. A midrange driver covers vocals/most instruments from 110hz to 2-3khz. Your tweeter covers the rest from 3khz to 20khz. Anything below 60hz (preferably lower like 40hz) is covered by your subwoofer. Dialing and tuning in your system is the most important part of having a quality, great sounding system. |
