Default RB1 - Can not read disk

I have a 2004 PT Cruiser, with the RB1 nav system installed. The past few weeks been getting a msg on the display indicating it can't read the NAV disk. Otherwise everything else works. Tried cleaning the disc, used compressed air to blow out the disc slot etc.

Called the dealer, they thought it might need a firmware update??? But I've found dealers are clueless when comes to car stereos.

Anyways, what to do next. Any ideas? Is the RB1 fixable? Where would one take it?

Or time to bite the bullet, get a new one or after market alternative?

Plus on a related note, does anyone have recommendations on replacement speakers on the higher end, that will fit without all kinds of modifications etc??

Actually i was able to locate a later version of the software, I had the "C" - the original version, found the "G" version, loaded it in & it worked. It seems the most current is the "J" version but the dealer wanted $200 for it, so I'm keeping an eye out on E-Bay or Craig's list. I hardly ever use it, but when I do, it sure is handy. Also the version I loaded on, actually gives the correct directions to my house. The original one, if I followed the directions exactly would have me in the middle of a pond in the next subdivision.

So now i'm thinking of upgrading the speakers and/or getting an IPOD interface.
