Default New stereo install.

1st time posting, cool site. I searched the forum but don't really see what i'm looking for. Do i need a new wire harness to hook up a new stereo regardless. Back in the day i dont rember having to get wire harness except the one going to the new stereo that plugged into the back. I'm looking into this model, (Kenwood KDC-148). I have an '05 pt cruiser. I will be switching all stock speakers too. Thanks for any input. Been 20 years since i messed with stereo equipment but i remember it not being that hard.

I just had a Kenwood KDC BT948HD installed and I'm pretty sure there was a new wiring harness.

Side note, it sounds great and I love the bluetooth sync, the phone functions are very easy to use.

Just found the dash mount kit with wire harness included for under $20. So should make it easy to install.

Yes you will need the wireing harness and maybe a kit to fit the new stereo in there as well. They usually run about $10-$25 for each and have all the instructions with them. I think you can even pick up the harness from most walmarts but I would get the kit to fit the stereo in the dash from an electronics or auto stereo shop for better quality. Its really pretty easy to do. Make sure you disconnect the batter first.

Since you are replacing the stock speakers you might consider putting in new speaker wires too... that way you can bypass most of the stock wiring as well.
