OK. If I understand it correctly, there is a wiring harness that goes into the cars harness and that gets attached to the head units wiring harness.
I'm confused with the harness though. I though people were saying that it comes as part of the install kit if the unit is purchased at crutchfield. But when I add a Kenwood to the cart it says I need PAC C2R-CHY4 (discounted 50% from $129.99 to $64.99) and Your vehicle has no accessory power lead at the receiver. What are they talking about. From reading other threads, people said they just picked up a harness for less than $10 at Walmart. I'd like to ungrade but need to know what I need. |

06' and up power is controlled by the canbus (computer system) so when you remove the factory radio, there needs to be an adapter like crutchfield shows to provide the power to the new radio. Yes, you can get a harness adapter for $10 that will provide you the connections for speakers BUT the radio will not power up.
You can add a switch from battery to turn on radio OR tap into the cig lighter wire OR use that adapter from crutchfield. If your planning other items added to your car, you may want to consider doing what i did on the wifes. How to: Get power to radio and add circuits for power

Thanks xwing777, I called Crutchfield and ordered the stereo, kit (mounting adapter & antenna adapter) and this harness. It's supposed to be all I need to install, so we'll see how it goes. According to them, it's supposed to be here tomorrow. I selected the KDC-X695 for the BT and MP3 playablity.

Crutchfield is very good on getting you everything you need for the install and detailed step by step instructions. Also they have free support on anything they sell.
Post back how everything goes for you when you get it installed.

Update: The stereo is installed and working great. I'll post a photo of the finished product over the weekend.
Just a few things I ran into while doing mine. 1) The PAC harness had (2) black and (2) yellow wires, while the stereo harness only had (1) of each. I spoke to Crutchfield and they told me to connect both blacks to the stereo black and the same with the yellow. He said it will work with just one, but might flicker if the volume is up. Something about, if only (1) is connected, then it may not receive full power. Mine works great with the (2) connected together. 2) The connector for the clock was very difficult to detach. The 2nd time I removed it, it was easier. So, be patient and get a good grip and push up the bottom tab and pull. 3) It took a while to get my stereo into the Crutchfield kit. It just seamed to fit really tight. The face wouldn't eject when installed, until I shaved some of the plastic from the kit. I shaved a little plastic from the main kit tabs, where the side rails slide on. I didn't have to take much off, but it made it much better. Maybe all the kits aren't like this. I love the look of the kit, so not complaints. Crutchfield was extremely helpful and did a great job getting me all I needed. |
