Default Factory radio antenna connection

Hello all, been lurking here for a couple of months trying to get smart as I am new to the PT, and very excited about my new to me 2002 Limited NA. I just installed a factory sub and a Kenwood head unit. I ordered the factory stereo version of the wiring for the sub and had to get a hold of Cass, who was very helpfull, to get me going with wiring for the Kenwood radio. The question I have is when I removed the antenna from the back of the factory stereo, it took quite a bit of effort and finally came out with what is best described as a plastic bushing around the cable. The "bushing" spins freely on the antenna cable and I plugged my crutchfield supplied antenna adapter into the bushing but now I have poor radio reception. Is that plastic bushing supposed to be there or was it supposed to stay in the back of the factory radio. Really wish I had taken a picture before putting it back together. Thanks!

It is only a fitment device to make the antenna connection fit properly. It is not to be used on another radio unless it's a factory version. You're likely not making a good contact with the antenna cable itself, so I'd suggest pulling it.

Thanks, I will persuade it to come off one way or another.

In the interest of closure, here is the plastic "bushing" I was talking about, sure looks like it should come off.

And this is what happened when I pulled it off with a pair of pliers.

I guess it was supposed to stay on there or was really stuck. Apparently the center pin in the connector was damaged which was causing the poor reception. Had to solder on a new end so now I dont need the adapter and radio reception is great.
