Default Roof liner vibrations

Does anyone else have a problem with roof liner vibrations in the back set passengers head area recess? I will probably have to remove the liner to put insullation. All I did was change the stock speakers out and put in more powerful ones, and a new deck to push the better speakers more for better sound.

Any suggestions where to start on the removal of the liner while Ptdiy.net is down?

King, I originally had that vibration that you spoke about. What I did was to get some foam insulation strips, and insulated where the interior light in the headliner is. The sound seemed as it was comming back further, but when I stuck my fingertips between the interior light surround and the headliner it would stop. Give it a try before you remove the headliner......

Gear head,
You have provided good infor in the pass.

I have taken the light out already once, where about did you put the insulation. I have a sun roof and Im afarid the foam my get caught on the sun roof trim piece and cause some problems. I realise you have a sun roof too.

I have reach my hand in as far a I could get it in there and I couldn't tell where the piece was vibrating.

Also while playing the music, I have pushed up on the center light and the vibration has stopped almost but not all. I have to push up on it about an 1/2" to 1" up.

King, put the insulation under the plastic surround, between the plastis frame and the roof liner. You don't even need to take the light assy out. Just pull it down and insert the foam under the plastic and on top of the liner. This sonically uncouples the light from the liner and the foam can take up the vibration that would normally happen between the light assy and the headliner. I used some very soft gray sponge foam. Much softer than weatherstrip. The air pockets in the foam help to absorb the vibration. I went all the way around the light with it, and it cured the vibration I got when cranking the volune up on the head unit....

I did something similar, back in '01 using a dense gray foam found in camera cases. I inserted some between the headliner and the metal brace just forward of the light opening. It's been no trouble for 3 years now - even with my sunroof. Nary a sound from the headliner in all that time. My feeling is that anything that keeps the headliner from moving freely will do the trick.

Thanks for your help everyone,

Gear Head abouts where did you find or get the insulation. I wish I would have know earlier the roof liner did this because with the front speakers I got some foam insulation but used on the curved part near the bottom side of the door area that has the lock knobs instead of my left over dyno. I still have dyno mat but that stuff is really small and thin and I dont think that it will work as well, who knows my work better.

Do you remember where you got the foam stuff. If not I will try the dyno first and find the foam later and double it up. If it seems to work. Dyno is easy to remove if you dont place it done to hard on plastic parts.

Who would think just by upgrading the head unit and the front + rear speakers you would get a vibartion like this.

Now with JaxPt he has those subs, and thats is his problem not mine. He will probably always have the vibrations unless he removes all the trim and the headliner and insulate the whole car.

Just when you thought it was safe to turn up the radio again, more vibrations.

Couldn't wait, still had some of the dyno I ordered when I bought speakers. Used this to line the light houseing area in the roof area. Took the trim pieces near the backseat seat belts half off dynoed behind that and the plastic piece within that area, its actually two pieces. Now the vibartion is once again down to a minimal.

Thanks for all the help.
