Default Distortion in stock stereo.

Since the second day I had my new PT, I've noticed an annoying distortion in both radio and CD player. This occurs at certain frequencies in the right channel only. Certain voices and/or instruments sound like there is a fuzz box in the right door speaker. My dealer (who has been great) replaced the speaker under warranty, but to no avail. They are checking further with Chrysler, but it doesn't sound encouraging. Has anyone out there experienced a similar problem or have any ideas what the root problem might be?[xx(]
Thanks, Josh

Have them replace the head unit. Had a similar problem with our ’96 Grand Voyager, at that time Chrysler sent the units out for repair and a bad solder joint was found.

Thanks, that sounds logical. I'm hoping that it's not something stupid like a rattle in the door.

My stock speaker created a rattle in the rear panels. I fixed the problem after I bought upgraded rear speakers, and dyno mated the surrounding area.

UPDATE!!!!!

After being away most of the year, I took my car to the local Dodge dealer. They diagnosed that the sheet-plastic moisture guard was touching the speaker and causing a secondary vibration, which I mistook for distortion. Their fix was to trim the plastic out of the speaker opening, leaving enough to still trap under the speaker mounting flange. Two weeks later, it still sounds great! I took the opportunity to test drive a new Magnum while mine was in the shop. Looks like a hemi in my future to replace the wife's old Taurus wagon! The Chrysler dealer who refused to look at my problem just lost a customer to the Dodge Boys! [?]

EJIII,
Thats great!
When I did my speakers I made sure to listen to then while the panel was off to make certain I did not have to take them over every week to find more vibration. Eventually it ended with me filling the speaker hole in the door, the surrounding area, and where the door pieces meet the body. Then lineing my ceiling light surround, the rear ceiling near the plastic bolts, putting strips in where the rear seatbelts meet the body and doing the same approach to the rear housing as the front doors. One 50 pack of dyno (4) 12x12 sheet cut in strips and pieces did the trick.
Knowing what I know now I would have done a better job at some of the areas know how to remove more of the paneling now. It still worked well and sounds good for non amped speakers.
