can i remove the alarm and anti theft junk? 04 pt

ok i live in the woods and have an 04 pt cruiser.
and one key, one fob.
the other day the bothersome system locked the doors while it was warming in the yard - grrr - i opened it myself.
but would like to have extra keys that work for everything.
the program key is too big to carry in my wallet.

I want the theft system removed and tossed away.
I have no need of it. I do not want it.

how can this alarm and system be removed so i can use any key to open the door to start and run my engine.
and know the system will not lock the doors by itself again?

thank you for your suggestions.

hey this sounds great!
where can i get that computer?

I have seen my computer module in the center console. it is small and looks easy to replace.
can i simply trade it out for the old style that desnt have the annying chip and other alarm junk to deal with.

I would love to just use a key i made.

i have never needed to buy one, so i'm not too sure. i see people name places to get them on here fairly often. crewzin posted a link to this site . maybe call their customer support and explain what you are trying to do. if they say it can't be done, you might try calling a few other places. it is the computer under the hood you replace.

anybody know any other places this guy can get an ecu from?

thank you

i almost bought an 02 that used a regular key, but it didnt have the other features or the low miles that this 04 has. [79800 miles today]
mine is the one with too many bells - grrr

I was able to talk with a reman place that will remove the security stuff off the ecu before sending it out.
but I have to remove the skimm unit from my car before it will work.
unfortunately I have not found instructions for that yet.

It might be much better to sell this piece of security off and get a real car.
I have enough computers to play with. :D

A solution that I use to prevent "PT lockout". Carry a flat replacement non chip hardware key in your wallet. This will open your door and get you into the car. Additionally I have an extra chip key and remote fob that I store locked in my glove box in the event I forget or misplace my primary set. I did the same thing you did a few months ago but I was prepared. My neighbor had locked his keys in his car and had to have AAA come and jimmy spread his door to get in so this inspired me to this logical $2.00 resolve. Good luck, ptprice

yup a door key is a great idea - the extra key costs $120 bucks - pffft
an extra fob? arr i hate to think what they want for that.

I will do my best to sell this piece of security off.

I am getting a door key made and hope the electronics hold out until i sell it off.
or trade it for another toy. :D

thank you for the great idea.
on a GM car I did exactly that. as gm only charged $40 bucks for their programmed key.
chrysler - pfffft

i have noticed that car alarms are more helpful to crooks than the user.

to clear an area - activate the alarm on your car and ppl will look away and walk away as the modern American will not want to be involved or sued for trying to help.
so the crooks deactivate the alarm and drive away free from being seen.
the alarm is a great way to clear an area. :)

Unless your PT security systems preform a lot differently than my 2005 PT Limited.... I just did a lockout test in the parking lot for you to confirm my $2.00 non chip hardware wallet key works to gain access..... I started the engine with the original equipment chip key that I understand you also have. I got out, closed the door, and waited with the engine running, patiently for the door locks to depress. When they didn't (I probably wasn't patient enough) I open the driver's door, rolled down the window, reached in and locked the doors manually by depressing the door lock. I was then able to open the door with the $2.00 flat non chip wallet key without an alarm going off. Will that work for you? It seem a lot cheaper than replacing a computer or removing security functions. ptprice

thank you - yes the copy key will open the door -

*So everyone make a wallet key and pack it in your pocket. trip A takes a long time to reach us.

Still a system that only allows a chipped key is just bad.

I am in doubt that replacing the computer will work.
as the system is fuzzed. the elec parts are designed to run poorly. [security]
In my reading around. It is not easy to try getting rid of the security junk.
a wallet key is a must have & will get me in,
but the failing alarm system is enough reason to sell this car off.
It is not fun to take a gamble on such security failing again.
it reset this time, but it is still there -
waiting to lock the doors. or sound the horn.

I listed this car on craigslist.
most ppl really like the security system. they will be happy with it. :)

Thank you so much for trying out the wallet key on the door.
yes it opens the door. but it wont be allowed to operate the car.

perhaps a programmed keyfob might allow the wallet key to operate the car?
I need to get a key and try that. . .
that might be nice to know.
