Default Some FM Signal Boosters DO Work

When at work, I'm about sixty five miles away from some of my favorite radio stations. I considered buying an FM signal booster to help with some of the weaker stations I like. But when I looked at the reviews online, I found that none of the current offerings seems to work well. Also, some of the new ones that just appear to be small tubes on an antenna cable have been shown not to work at all.

So I went out into my storage building and began digging for an old Sparkomatic signal booster I bought in about 1986. I know this booster had worked and worked well. There are real advantages to being a pack rat.

Strangely, this 28 year-old Sparkomatic SB10 booster appears to be identical to the current AB150/TAT419 boosters offered all over the internet. Even the writing on them appears to be the same. Of course, the guts inside could be completely different.

I removed the original standard output cable and soldered in one for a modern or mid-2000's Chrysler. Since my OEM 2001 antenna cable had a standard end on it, this allowed the booster to additionally work as a cable adapter for my 2004 stereo in my 2001 PT.

And the results were just as I remembered. It kills the AM reception but does a pretty good job of pulling in weaker FM stations. I'm pretty happy. Here's a video.

I had one in my Toyota Corolla years ago,and I could pick up stations as far away as Houston, from here in Corpus Christi(approx. 218 miles!).

Sometimes the old stuff still works! I use to use them..but I am not sure I kept any of them? I was into 8 tracks and reverberation with quad sound more so back in the day.

Here's one like mine compared the ones available now on eBay. It should be noted that my Sparkomatic bought at Walmart in 1986 was made in the Republic of China (Taiwan). I don't know where these new ones are made. But it's amazing how much they resemble the old ones.

That's the one I had on the left!(SB-10)....It took of the 50 mile 'fringe zone' that existed between Corpus & San Antonio.
