Default 06 and up Nav (Unofficial)

Good evening all,

Last year I posted a new thread on a navigation head unit for 06 PT cruisers and up that seemed very sketchy and of course, an unofficial Chrysler product. I have now decided to buy one (via Ebay) from a company called "Koolertron". They have a website and multiple radios with nav for cars that have no option for one. I will let you know how the install goes when I receive it.

Link to their website is below.
Koolertron 2002 - 2007 Dodge Caliber, Charger, Dakota Car DVD GPS player with Digital Touch screen, Radio, SWC iPod BT Control : Koolertron.com

I've seen these and similar ones also. I would love something like this for my PT, but can't justify $400 for something I can't see before hand!!! And I'm not sure if it would last through one of our windows that dip down into the -30s for weeks/months at a time! Keep us posted!!

Cool Re: 06 and up Nav (Unofficial)

I've got "windows" too.
But, it seems like they never dip "down"....they are always going up....like Windows 5, 6, 7...Windows 8!

I agree with the price, unseen.
But, I doubt that low temps by themselves would harm the electronics.
Only problem is warming up the car and the electronics before using. (warm & dry)
Otherwise, the warming condensation could short something out, before it dries off.

And, my problem with aftermarket nav systems is....giving up the radio....or mounting low and making you take your eyes off of the road.
I've got a golf buddy who drives us on any road trips in his Chrysler Town & Country.
The nav system is at the top of the center dash area, where you can see it and not be taking your eyes off the road.
That's the way it should be!

SMART ARSE!!!! I meant WINTERS

The electronics themselves will survive, it's the display screen that I would worry about. I got a backup camera and a 4" screen. It was fine the first winter but the last few months it's been acting strange. Wierd colours, sometimes no colour or no picture at all. Will see if it comes back to life in the warmer weather.

Weird colors, or maybe all white?
You live up north and have a snow drift against your back bumper, you will not see anything normal.

I've seen, and even posted about those before......That's the best way (Ebay) to get one of those, that way if it turns out to be a POS,you've got Ebay & PayPal protection.
Let us know how it goes..........

Question Re: 06 and up Nav (Unofficial)

Eyeing the 1st-gen version... Koolertron 1999 - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge, Chrysler Car DVD Player with in-dash Navigation System

Specs on the website are a little thin... are those 4 audio outputs line level?? The wires look VERY skinny going into that connector on the back! Does the factory CD player actually drive a separate amp module, is that how it works?? I guess it must! :-)

For the price you could buy a 6 in screen double din unit and a new bezel.

Got any suggestions? What "6 inch screen double DIN" units do you know of that are essentially 'plug and play' with a first gen (2004) PT? :-)
