Default Which dash kit for 1st generation aftermarket stereo?

I have a 2001 PT Cruiser with the OEM stereo/cassette/CD player. I am going to update to a single din stereo....nothing super fancy...just want to upgrade to something I can plug my iPod into.

I've noticed that there are a number of dash kits available (I've been looking mostly at Metra dash kits). Which one(s) work best for a standard aftermarket installation? I want to ensure a good aesthetic fit as well as ensure good structural support for the stereo.

Thanks for your help!!

Eric

Others have reported the best overall results by using the 'non-pocket' version, the dash kits 'with pocket' have recieved complaints about not providing proper support, especially with heavier head units.

Yep,

On other cars, I've also found the ones with the pockets to be problematic. The regular name brand Metra kit should be fine.

PS: One the 2001 PT, you shouldn't need an antenna wire adapter. The 2001 and 2002 PT's usually have the standard antenna wire plug that will fit directly into most aftermarket stereo heads. However, you will need the older style two-plug wiring adapter like this:
