Default iPhone Imput Options?

I have a basic 2002 PT with the original stereo (1 CD + Radio). The CD player has always had issues and I just got an iPhone so I'm wondering what my options are for connecting the two. Any ideas? I'm somewhat concerned that an aftermarket stereo might not fit as well with the retro style of the car.

Edit: I'm only interested in using the iPhone to play music. Nothing fancy.

And thanks!

Here's the easy and very inexpensive solution.

For most Chrysler stereo heads from this era (but not the RB1), you can add this aux input:

Axxess iPod Auxiliary Input AIP CR01 ID for 98 04 Chrysler | eBay

That gives you the old-style iPod connector and a standard 1/8-inch audio jack. You can use either or both. You can simply add the newer lightning adapter to the end of older iPod connector, or a better solution is to add a bluetooth dongle.

Amazon.com : August MR240B Bluetooth Audio Receiver for Sound Systems - Bluetooth Wireless Music Adaptor for Home Stereo / Headphones / Portable Speakers / Apple / iPhone / iPod Docks - Bluetooth Enable your Audio Devices : Electronics

Now you can use your iPhone or any bluetooth device. I've used both of these and they work great. I am also about the install these same components in my 2005 GT.

@ Handy Cruiser

Thanks for the share! Just curious how are those gadgets physically connected to the factory radio?

The aux input has a square 10-pin plug that will plug in on the back of the stereo head. This is actually the port for a CD changer and the stereo head will think the aux input is a stereo changer.

To use the aux input, just press the MODE button on the stereo head. You can then use the SEARCH button to select between channel one and two. One channel is the iPod plug and the other is for the 1/8-inch mp3 plug. You will have to provide your own 1/8-inch cable for that. There is a place to plug it in on the aux input adapter body. I drilled a 1/2-inch hole in the back of the cubby beneath the stereo head. Then I ran both the iPod and 1/8-inch plugs through there. You can kind of see them in these photos on my 2001 Limited. My 1/8-inch cable was red.

Thanks, Handy_Cruiser! Those are both awesome suggestions and don't sound complicated. Clearly I've been putting this off far too long.
