Default Modding door for bigger speakers

Has anyone cut the door speaker holes bigger to fit larger speakers? I have an aftermarket set of speakers that my wife bought me and they're too big to fit. Just wondering if this has been done before. Thanks.

Be sure to tie the door handles together.
Otherwise you might blow a door open!!!

Yep,

Somewhere there's a thread for a guy they cut about ten holes in each door and filled it with speakers.

This is one of those mods where just about anything is possible depending on your skill level. Here's a photo showing a cool backdoor mod. I'm sure you could do something similar in the front:

And here's a cool front door speaker mod:

Those are cool. Not looking to do that though. I mean cutting the metal the stock speaker screws into and mounting bigger speakers.

Now that I think about it though that may be more work than needed. Thanks for the pics. If I decide to under take the mod I'll be sure to post pics and step by steps. Thanks handy.

It may have been helpful to have known what speakers you were thinking about installing in the doors?

They're sony explöds. 6 3/4 I think. They match the aftermarket head unit I installed a while back.

Since we got our PT GT Turbo convertible a lot of other PT owners come up to me in parking lots and such to talk about it and their PT's.

One fellow decided he wanted to put some Bose 6x9” triaxial speakers in the doors of his 2001 PT so he took 2x4's and built an oval frame and just screwed that to the inside of the doors over the stock door panel on both the front and rear doors.

He did a decent job of rounding the corners and put a nice mahogany stain and polyethylene finish on the pine he used for this so although they definitely did not look stock, it didn't look that bad.

I have to admit that the Bose speakers have very good bass to them with the stock stereo. The speakers in my convertible are terrible. The drivers side front is blown and just buzzes all the time so I'm just using the rear speakers so far. Once it warms up I have a new pair of coaxial speakers and adapters to put in the front.

Cool Re: Modding door for bigger speakers

My 2005 Dream Cruiser GT Convertibe has the "Infinity Surround Syetem", and the speakers and sound are great!
