Default aftermarket radio in 06

I have too many buttons that the lights are burnt out so I want to replace the radio. I went to crutchfield and they have numerous choices but I'd like to see what everyone else has gone with. How does it look with the funky cutout in the cover plate? Thanks.

I worry about supporting the entire weight of a stereo on the bezel because you have to cut out the center support of the dash to fit a double din unit. My stereo had a couple of burned out out bulbs and I was able to find a replacement faceplace on ebay for $25, replaced it myself as it just unplugs from the stereo body, good as new

04 10 Chrysler Dodge Jeep Radio 6 CD MP3 RAQ Face Plate Replacement P05064174AD | eBay

If you go that route, remove your stereo and remove the faceplate and on the circuit board is a part number, search by that part number as I found out on my stereo (RAQ) there were two different part numbers for the board used on the RAQ stereo and each had a different number of pins on the ribbon cable. Stock stereo works fine for me

You don't have to remove the center support, just notch it on each side and bend it down. Than the head unit is supported.

I think it's a little different in a Gen2, in that the bottom support for the head unit has to be removed.

I was going to install my old CD player for my T-Bird till I read about the CANbus & adapters & other shit on the G2's...so I just replaced my single CD player with a stock 6 CD/MP3 player.

I Have a 006 PT, JUST recentley I Missed my factoy radio. the after market radio I also purchased from crutchfields, is nice and I miss the slott underneath you can add with the after market radio. What I like and miss most about the factory radio are the large buttons for finding the stations. Also the sound I Have is improved, Years ago I added some KICKER speakers, Also I like the digital readout of the station that not only shows up on the radio screen but also on the fuel temp gauge. Cructchfields is a excellent co. and very helpfull. Remember to disconect you battery before you install just to be on the safe side. the digital readout of the station did not show up on the fuel an temp guage with the aftermarket. just on the radio screen? Anyway hope this helps.
