Default Rear Shelf Sub Mount

i was throwing out an idea for a couple of subs recessed into the shelf in the back of the pt.

like in show fashion.

im not sure of functionality, but i thing a custom shelf and have it stationary and have wires run through the shelf then in panel then out the side into the body panel and do like 2 10s kind of angled forewards like make a pod on top of the shelf to angle them but very mild like lift the back end off the shelf an inch.

Then hook up the amp underneath and between the two.

i dont know how it would work but loooks cool in my head.

Sounds cool, But I would make a copy of the shelf you have now out of 3/4" MDF wood. Have the box drop down to house your subs like you said. But what I would do to show off more of the amp it recess the amp in to the back of the box so when you open the trunk you can see the amp. Even hook up some neons to have a glow effect on the amp. You should use 3/4" MDF wood for everything. Also get liquid nail to sell the seems. Sounds like a great idea was thinking of changing mine for something similar. Check out my link below of what I did. E-mail me if you have questions. SwtNLwPT@msn.com

im just throwing out an idea i don't have enough money to do this or any audio as of any time soon. I just had to buy a set of tools for school in the fall.

i may get an infinity and an amp off a friend for cheap tho so i might copy your idea or make my own stealth box. i need space to trave too and from school with stuff.

can i hook up the sub and amp to the stock head unit?

and where could i fit the amp and how would i run the wires and such im new to this whole car audio stuff.

I would never hook an amp to a stock radio, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. I think for better sound and an installer install go with a radio that has RCA's. I have been thinking about selling my stuff. I would love to get all gone at once. I am going to be putting on e-bay in about 2 weeks if I don't find anybody on this site or the other one I use. I have a full system and once I get the amp I will show you pics of how I installed it. The whole system is Alpine and it is there good stuff. The reason I am selling is I need the money. I haven't been able to complete the install because all the stuff wasn't in stock and it is all paid for. It sounds great and saves space. I have all new 2003 and 2004 stuff. If interested E-mail me at SwtNLwPT@msn.com . I will give you the list of stuff and a total price. It is pricey but much cheaper then any store you will go to and all the stuff comes in it orginal box with paper work. If anyone else is interested feel free to contact me as well.

Do you mean just mounting subs into the rear deck for free-air or boxing them in underneath?

The Q-Logic is a good choice but it is a little pricey. You should be able to make a decent box for yourself out of 3/4 MDF as Swt suggested for a 1/4 of what the Q-Logic box costs.

Personally I think putting a pair of subs and an amp on that shelf is going to cause some serious sagging. May even crack it after awhile.

I kept the factory radio and added a pair of subs and amp and it sounds fine to me. If you're going to amp the subs you should amp the rest of your speaks too though else you'll be drowning in bass.

If space is an issue look over the review thread in this forum for the Q-Logic Dual Box, I've got pics and a diagram for where I ran the wires. My help a bit.

Check out the #2 pic below. The pic is kinda decieving because is looks like its right off the floor of the car. There is actually enough room under it to stuff a rolled up sleeping bag.

Head unit is a Kenwood x579, back pillars are Kenwood 5708's, fronts are Kenwood Xr71p's. Sub is a Kicker comp 12 and Amp is MTX 4122.

This combo generates enough clean volume to blow the chrome off a trailer hitch.
