Default 2002 same as 2001 Front Door Speaker?

Hi folks,

The driver's side front door speaker on my 2002 PT Cruiser Limited is not working.

I went to one of two salvage yards in my area, but for something else. They happened to have an '06 PT Touring, but it's speakers are different (I remember reading that somewhere).

I will be going to the other salvage yard tomorrow. They have the speaker from a 2001 PT. Are these typically the same as the ones in the 2002?

I have attached pictures of the speaker that came out of my 2002.

Thank you.

I'm pretty sure that 01-03 parts are pretty much interchangeable, but don't hold me to it. I THINK that in 04 there were a few changes made.

Thanks, Chuzz.

That's pretty much what I remember from all the threads I've read here, but I'm still a noob when it comes to PT's (and cars in general), and I've read SO many threads here over the last 2 months that I can't remember it all.

The G2's aren't as "Bassy". If you can't find the same 1...just buy both fronts.

That's what I was planning.

I'd like to ask a question, since you mentioned it in your post.

When we say "G 2/Gen 2/Generation 2", what does that mean, exactly? I assume it alludes to model years, but which years are considered Gen 1, and which are Gen 2?

Hold the fort!

Many of the 2001 and 2002 PT's have "premium" speakers in the doors. In 2003, Mr. Chrysler started using cheaper plastic-housed speakers with much smaller magnets in just about all PT's.

When talking about electronics, there are subtle and not so subtle differences in each year model of the 1 Gen PT's.

The speakers in my '02 are like the one on the left.
The speaker I saw in the '06 were like the one on the right.

I found the matching speaker I needed at the salvage yard. $10. SCORE!

Got home, installed it, and it works and sounds great.

Thanks to all for the info and tips!
