I been looking around to see if anyone had try this and I could not come up with anything. Nothing is inpossible in the world of car audio. I been think a 10" woofer might fit if you build it out a little. I am not sure if it will work because it might take up more trunk space then I will like and might rattle the trunk to much even with dampping mat. If anyone seen or done anything like this send me pics or a like. I will love to check it out.

Just look further down in the posting of this "Sound & Security" section. Aren't a lot of them talking about subwoofers in the trunk. I'm about to add a stand-alone 8" subwoofer to a wooden shelf with the amp on the side panel. A quick disconnect between the sub and amp will allow me to take out the shelf with the sub so I have room to carry all my junk when I take my trips up north.

Don't think tailgate is a good idea - when tailgate is open, might hit your head on the bulge, and the stuts that hold the tailgate up probably won't like the extra weight.

SwtNlwPT,
It is prefectly possible if you get the right sub that is not too heavy. Like Don said the struts won't like the weight, but what does that matter, that you have to lift the hatch up yourself. I like this idea and wish I could do it to mine. If I was you I would check with the local junkyards to find a PT hatch and start cutting.
