Default Chrysler 6 Disc CD changer forgot all about CD's

On Saturday, I took the Chrysler 6 disc CD changer radio unit out of her PT, but then I realized that I forgot to take her CD's out. I plugged it back in, but it would not go into CD mode, just AM and FM. I ended up taking it apart to get her CD's out. It was pretty easy, but I did end up breaking a piece of the CD shuffling mechanism in the process.

Now on Tuesday, I disconnected the battery in my PT to install my new Stage One ECU. I don't know if I needed to disconnect the battery, but it seemed like the prudent thing to do. After I hooked it back up, the 6 disc CD changer in MY car suddenly will not go into CD mode, just AM and FM. with this problem, but offers no solutions. Has anyone encountered this and successfully solved it?

I realize this is a old post, but figured its worth a shot. Have the same problem with my 6 disc changer, have you found a solution for yours?

Welcome to the forum. You should go to the new members section and introduce yourself and tell us more about your PT.

Also, are you talking about the 6-disc changer under the seat of a 2001/2002 PT or the 5-disc changer made into the stereo head of a 2003 thru 2005 PT?

There was also a 6-disk stereo head in 2006-??

You be right.

Two of 'em. RAK with and RAQ without cassette. And if that's it, this site indicates maybe a bad plastic gear. Here's a link:

The Chrysler-Huntsville RAQ CD Stereo Head Unit: Repair Guide

And to make this worse, here's the one in my vert that I forgot was a CD changer:

I have the RAQ that holds 6 discs in my PT.

Had the 6-disc changer mounted in the trunk of a Neon that owned, worked great.

Hey Rick. Do you have a link to that website where you can get your car's build sheet?

You could try to simply unplug the radio and then plug it back in again. On the RBQ 6 disc radio found in many 1st gen PTs, when you plug in the radio, it will automatically cycle through all 6 cd slots to presumably self check and correctly display which slots are populated with discs. It should happen automatically.

I am not sure what happens in the 2nd gen or remote changers.

That's what it would do when I had the remote changer in my Neon.
