Default discovered something new today..

While googling about the RKE system i've often found UK/European owners asking about the reprogramming of remotes, of course we all find the same answers concerning the pressing of the panic button etc for the US remotes and the fact "our" remotes are only a 2 button remote.

Well, it seems Chrysler are a bit cleverer than i thought, i was talking to a lad who told me if you take the front case off the remote there is a third button 'hidden' inside the case, at the bottom, where the "panic" button would be.

So, me being me and having a love of pulling stuff apart to see how it works, i made a trip to a local breakers yesterday and grabbed a remote from the "key bin", he told me i could have it because he hasn't got any Chryslers in so it is obviously an old one of no use.... i had a look at it today and discovered...this

The contacts are

1) Unlock (as on UK/Euro)

2) Lock (as on UK/Euro)

3) Boot/Trunk

4) Panic

As you can see on this, only the two top buttons Lock/Unlock are "visable" through the case on the UK/Euro remote, the fourth button is hidden away inside and is only visable when you take the case off, the third button isn't "formed" on the rubber cover but the contact is on the circuit board.

So, i know this is a big assumption and we all know that assumption is the mother of all f....well you know, but i'm assuming there is only one kind of board, it is just the different chips and rubber covers made but i am happy to be corrected.

Very cool! You are probably correct. It would have been too much expense to make a separate circuit board.

I believe you are correct in that there is only 1 board. This same board is used on the same years 01-05 Chrysler Neons. That is why there is a trunk release which is unused on the PT. You can intermix a Neon remote and a PT remote for this reason. I have not openly shared that fact before so that may be a revelation to some.

I would be surprised if the panic button chip is not on board your junker key fob as well.

I do wonder if your UK PT would have the circuit for it to activate though.

Good question, when i get the RKE and fob from Myckee, and if it works on a UK car i'll give the button a press and see what happens
