Default Front Door Speakers

Could use a few suggestions: 2001 PT Cruiser

Both front door speakers are not working. Coincidence or not ? Is there a way(s) to check for reasons other than removing door panels? Fuse box, harness, etc. Doesn't matter AM, FM or cassette - same result. Rear speakers work fine.

Note: I suspect this car may have been in an accident before I bought it (8 years). Nothing shows up on Carfax - but I still have my suspicions. I'm wondering if the speakers were not properly reconnected. The tweeters work, although somewhat weak.

First inclination is to remove the panels but thought I'd ask in the forum.

Pull both the front & rear panels on the same side, switch the rear with the front.

Good idea. Two birds . . . obvious way to find out if the door speakers are wired.

thanks

Have you checked the fade knob on the radio? Maybe someone is messing with you.

Someone messing with me? Do you mean there might be somebody in my car, playing with my radio, whom I can't see, smell or hear?

Hmmmmmm. I guess that's a possibility.

UPDATE: 2001 PT Cruiser

Replaced both Driver and Passenger door speakers. After taking off panels I saw that both speakers were very rust-coated - probably from water seeping through window seal. Replaced with a pair of used AIWA speakers from a slightly older cassette/CD player. Sounds as good as new.
