Default No Bass Front Door Speakers

Just picked up a 2004 Cruiser and noted there is no bass from the front door speakers. The rears sound great, but the front door speakers (which I initially thought weren't working at all) provide the same quality as the little speakers in the dash - no mid or bass frequencies at all. (?)

The door speakers in my wife's 2002 sound great !

The head unit is a factory AM / FM / CD with separate bass and treble controls.

What do you think ? - speakers or head unit ?

Mark.

It's the speakers.

In 2003, Chrysler downgraded the front door speakers to some little plastic ones that don't sound very good.

Here's my write up on this:

It "sounds" like you need to get some better front speakers?

There are dozens maybe hundreds of options available for improved frequency response using a stock head unit.

I prefer after market available speakers NEW but I will not discount what some have found out regarding the different factory available speakers offered in PT Cruisers over the years of its production.

My long on going unfinished stereo project for my PT Cruiser.

IF I were to consider aftermarket speakers - what size would I be looking at to match what is there from the factory ?

6.5" 4 ohm for the front but 8 ohm will be ok too. The plastic speakers went to hell in my '05 PT GT convertible shortly after I got it. I put a pair of 8 ohm spark-o-matic speakers from the '70's that I had laying around in the front doors.

So far they are working fine.

You should be aware that the speaker connectors are different between the two speaker styles. They are not 'plug 'n play'.
