Default Airbag warning light/alarm - intermittant

I’m having a problem with intermittent illuminating of the airbag warning light and its accompanying chime.

There are two airbag-related lights. One, the “passenger airbag off” light, is next to the emergency flasher switch. The other is the airbag warning light located in the instrument cluster.

Whenever anyone sits in the front passenger seat, the airbag warning lights/sounds intermittently. It’s annoying! But it doesn’t happen when there’s not a passenger sitting in that seat.

So it seems to me that the computer senses someone is sitting there. If the passenger is small/light enough, the passenger airbag is disabled, as it should be. However, regardless of who is sitting there, the airbag warning is activated.

AIRBAG DISABLED / AIRBAG WARNING
Empty front pass. seat NO / NO
Child in front pass. seat YES / INTERMITTANT
Adult in front pass. seat NO / INTERMITTANT

If I remember right, the passenger airbag sensor is set for 35 or 38lbs.

The weight sensor seems fine and disables the passenger airbag as it should. It's the intermittent airbag warning light and alarm that's the problem. Any time someone is sitting in the front passenger seat, I have to hear that chime over and over and over...

Arrrrrgggg!

I've the same issue, did you find a solution? I'll be working on it these days, switch unplugged meanwhile.

Although the OP is 4 months old and it seems no one looked at this in the past 2 months, I just came across this thread. If this is a Gen 2 PT, it sounds just like the problem I had. The culprit was a dying front right seatbelt latch/sensor. At first it seemed permanent, then for a while it was intermittent, then permanent again. I pulled a replacement from a Gen 2 PT at the junkyard and the problem was fixed. You may need to remove the front passenger seat to get to the fastener holding the seat belt latch on the left side. I needed a T45 socket to remove the rear bolts.
