The wife is just terrible at calling out directions and I hate walking into the gas station to ask for directions when we get lost. So I have been thinking about getting the GPS nav system Mopar makes for the PT. Has anybody else instaled this nav system and if so how do you like it? Here's a link to a site for more info, kind of pricey at 1,400, but anythings better than fuming at my wife for map reading impared. By the way I'm pretty good at getting lost too

if your gonna spend $1400 for a nav unit why dont you get something better with more options?? i have a pionner avic-n1 and its great. it actually has a voice that tells you when to stop, turn, and tells you when you have arrived at your detination. it has a 6.5" screen where the mopar one has a 4.9". it can be voice activated, plays dvds and mp3s, and has a detachable face. got mine off ebay for $1515.00 shipped and took 25-30min to install. its a great little all-in-one.also look into alpine and kenwood units.[?]

The Mopar Navigation unit IS an Alpine piece. Check the disc(s) that come with the unit. The Alpine logo is all over them.

Hey GT,
Have you tried the Performance Mode where the avic-n1 monitors your car's performance. Pioneer says it will also measure lateral G's as well.

sorry for the late post, been out of town. the performance feature is more of a novelty than a real tool. it tracks your speed even if you dont connect the speed sensor wire to the pcm(Ive been too lazy to hook mine up) it tells you the amount of g's you pull when you accelerate and when you make turns. it also tells you the grade of the slope your car is sitting on. overall i got this unit because it offerd everything in one package instead of say, the kenwood, alpine, and other pioneer units where you have to buy the navi system ontop of having to buy the indash unit. and i got a pretty good deal in my opinion($1515.00 shipped off ebay. retails for ~$2500.00 where i live)[8D]

Thanks for the reply GT,
Man the more I find out about the AVIC-N1 the more I like it, everthing about it is awesome even the sim-performance novelty feature. The only thing I don't like about it is that you can't view a dvd movie unless the car has it's car brake on. Is there a way to get around this, like not connecting a sensor wire to your emergency brake, or does the performance chip detect motion and stops dvd movie playback? I think this thread kind of got off the subject so I think I'll start a new one thread called "AVIC-N1 Nav System"
