If you are looking for good cheap replacements, then there is no other then Pioneer to go with. I been in the car audio business for over 10 years and although I only do it now as a hobby, I would go no other route then a Pioneer Head Unit and pioneer interiors are awesome for the $$$.

Almost every company today makes Head Units with MP3 players and now even WMA.

As for Sony stay away from the Car Audio. There TV's are nice but there car audio sux.

If you would like to see pics of my radio install go to my car domain link below.

SWEET! I like the looks of that! Did you do the install yourself? I just looked on crutchfield and they apparently will supply with all the required tools to install the unit in the car with any head Unit Purchase. Are there any adapters or anything that is required? I am intrigued now, because I could get one of these and burn Mp3's on it, and have a LIMITLESS library of music!

I've bought a head unit from crutchfield before. They do give you everything including the adapter, mounting kit, wire harness, and instructions. I was looking at the double DIN Pioneer stereo to put in the cruiser. Any feedback on this?

I guess what my question is this. I used to have a Mazda 626, and let me tell you. It was VERY HARD TO GET THAT RADIO OUT AND IN THE CAR. A literal pain in the A$$. I noticed this morning that the console the radio sits in apparently has its own independent piece of plastic that I hope can be removed. I guess then, its just as simple

The PT has to be one of the easiest cars I ever worked on. All you have to do is take out the power window control which pops out useing a flat screwdriver. There is a screw located behind it. Take that screw out. Pull a little bit and the AC control will pop off. Take the whole bazel off and then there is 4 screws to take the radio out. The mounting kit screws in to the same factory holes. Wire the radio to the wiring harness and then snap it in and secure the radio. Takes me less then 20 mins to do it all. Should take anyone less then 1 hour.

I had everything installed by pro's. I wanted it to look professional and clean and didn't trust myself to do it perfectly. Worth every penny!!!

My factory radio died so I decided to go aftermarket. I got a Sony CDXF-5700 at Circuit City. Here are the details from Sony:

http://sm.crutchfield.com/S-kcaM2QnL...&avf=N&search=

Circuit City did the install for free since the stereo was over $99. I decided on this one because it plays CDR/CDRW/MP3 and it has a sub out. I was very happy with the installation and they also have a price match guarantee, so a week later when it went on sale I got $23 back. So originally it cost $259 including tax and parts and then $236 with the cash back. It makes my factory speakers sound even better. I talked to some friends who have had Sony stereos for a while and they were pleased with them as well. If you want to know what it looks like installed I can find my digital camera and send you a picture.

Head unit, maybe, but speakers, don't even go that route. Sony is a good company for TV's and radios, but not for car audio.
