That's a good chunk of change. Can't really say though, depends on what the base price for the unit is, how much they are charging as an install fee, whether the unit has special features that require extra wiring or fitment. Typical install for just a basic head unit swap shouldn't be more than 25-30 bucks.

which model is it.$30-40 is about average for install + supplies. why dont you do it yourself?? its easy.

Forget that do it your self.
Gary its really not that hard if you get the wire harness to connect to the stock wiring. You crimp the correct ones to each other then the plug plug into the stock wireharness and then into the back of the CD player. However this is for a usually CD player, without any TV or anything else special. All though it should go in about the same. Get yourself some books and do it yourself for that price. Dude you detail cars for a living something the rest of us can't do even if you are baby sitting us through it. You are certainly smart enough to do this project. However if you do go for it. Give him a detail and charge a little extra.[} ]

Gary, please do not go the Sony speaker route. Yes, those speakers are nice and shiny, and sound really good (if you were able to listen to a set at Best Buy or Circuit City), but within a couple of years, you're going to be replacing them. Save yourself some money in the long run, and go for either Audiobahn, Kenwood, or Kicker. With the money you save on installation you can get yourself some kick A%$ speakers. You could even spring for an amplifier if you're feeling kinda bold. I'm sure some people will chime in and say that Sony is the best, and a lot of bang for your buck, but I know a lot of people who thought they would cut a corner or two, go Sony, and pay big in the end. I know a guy who installs systems, and he's usually replacing the original speakers or Sony. Just my $.02.

I'm with ya, Chromed. I bought Kicker DX60's for the doors and DX57's for the rear. I also bought a Soundstream 480.4 Xtreme series amp. Total price:
DX60 = 69.95 a piar DX57 = 69.95 a pair 480.4 amp = 200.00 Labor = 40.00 Amp kit = 40.00 Total = 419.90 By the way, I kept the stock 6 disc in-dash player and the stock dash speakers and let me tell you, it is LOUD!! Don't buy the Sony's. Not just a personal thing but a quality thing. Just my .02 |

My issue with not getting rid of the factory head unit is the fact that it has a Cassette player in it, and I use that to connect my Ipod. But of course, when I was getting my windows re-tinted the other day, They had a Sony Head unit that played MP3 CDS, which would then totally eliminate the need for a iPod in the car. HMmmm. I would love to see some photos of what the aftermarket radios look in them. Anybody got any pics?

Did you install everything yourself, or did you have it professionally installed?

I like My Sony Speakers, but I got them because of their affordability. Mine were gotten for me from a fellow at best buy dirt cheap. They were easy to install. I figured anything had to be better than the stock ones. WHich brings up a good question. How hard is it to change the front speakers?
