Default AVIC-N1 Nav System

Check this all in one system out: http://www.avic-n1.com/ This unit is just awesome, the more I find out about it the better it gets. The only flaw I see in it is the unit will only allow for rear monitor playing of a dvd movie while driving, you need to park and have the emergency brake engaged to watch a dvd movie on the front dash monitor. My question is this: Is there a way to play a dvd movie while you are driving; not for me hence I am the driver, but for a passenger in the front. Sure it will play in the rear seats, but what if the front passenger wants to watch a movie. Why would I want to add another screen in the front when there is already one on the dash unit. This is my only gripe about the unit. So if someone has a bypass or a fix to remedy this problem then you can bet I'll be walking into my nearest car stereo shop and getting me one.

You can "rig" it to where you can take the wire out that is a ground for the screen to function properly....my installer of my in-dash screen did it for me, now i do not have to engage the parking brake to watch a movie in the front seat....if you get a good relationship with any installers at places like tweeters, car toys, circuit city ultimate electronics...tell him you will buy him a six pack to take care of this for you and i am sure they will jump at the chance...most all of them will do it for you, but will have to do it OFF SITE.....

There is one wire that goes to the parking brake. This wire gets grounded. All you have to do is hook it up to a constant ground and the screen will work all the time. Easy to do yourself if you know anything about car audio.

like they said. all you do is ground the parking wire and you trick the unit into thinking the parking brake is always applied.

Awesome tip!!!!!! everyone on this forun rocks!!!!! I'm going to pick mine up this weekend.[^] You know whats cool about this unit, When the screen is retracted into the unit it looks like a plain old stereo unit. And from what I hear from GTCruiser it even has a detachable face plate to make it even less desireable to car theives. To me Pioneer thought of everything when they designed this unit.

Wow GT your system is awesome,

Fiberglass bass box, x-box and a playstation, a whole entertainment system on wheels. No worries on your pics they do the job in documenting your GT's transformation. You really gutted your cruiser, did you put some sound dampening material? If so how is the sound in your cruiser now? Is most of the road noise gone? And how much insulation does DC put in a stock GT. Probably not a lot cuz when I'm moving along at 80mph + I need to crank up the volume to 25 on my stock reciever just to drown out the outside noise. How does the AVIC-N1 sound compaired to the stock reciever?

I put in 2 layers of sound damper on the entire car. got it from an industrial supply company. it is the exact same thing as dynamat original but for only 15.00 per 12 ft*2. the entire 100 ft*2 was like $120.00.the only sound dampner from the factory is some on top of the wheel wells and some on the floor in the back. the areas on the floor that are darker are the places where the fac. sound damper is. most of the road noise was removed from the interior. i cant remember how the stock radio was since i changed it out 2 days after i got the car. Im in the process of making a new box since the one in the pics was my first fiberglass project. it wasnt really planned out that much but came out pretty good.
