Default Remote Microphone Placement

So I've ordered a new unit to replace the failing OEM radio/CD player in my '06 Touring Edition. The new unit has a remote microphone for making phone calls via Bluetooth. I've seen posts where people talk about placing the microphone at the top of the A pillar and running the cable under the A pillar pad and back to the unit. I've found YouTube videos that show the radio removal process, but are there any posts here that show how to remove the A pillar pad? And once the pad is off, is there a reasonably easy way to route the microphone cable under the dash and to the radio area? I'd like to know what I'm doing before ripping into this.

Thanks

2006 & up, you just grab the pillar & pull it off.
You can run the wire under the steering column to the hood latch, then up the side rubber & under the pillar.

Just did this in my sons 04..I just put it on top of the steering column. Easy to do by just popping the bottom dash panel loose and tilting the wheel to run the mic & wire. It works just fine there.
