Default Question and an Idea on Speakers

Question first,

What is everyone doing with the 2 small dash speakers? Are they tweeters only with a crossover in the stock system? are the door speakers woofers only? they sound like it. If I replace, do I go with components?

Now the idea,

I see what everyone means by the rear speakers pointing into the rear seats, I folded down the rear seats and what a difference. I popped of the trim panel and it looks like there is room in there to make a custom bracket that would tip the speaker so it is at a better angle. I am thinking of a wedge bracket with an inch or so build up on the bottom, and very thin at the top.

Does this make sense to anyone else? If so, does anyone have ideas of how to do this? Maybe a TAP plastic store would sell a wegde shaped piece of plastic, or someone with wood working skills? Seems once we have the wedge, a jig saw could trim it to fit.

Mike

The stock speakers are supposed to be comps up front but i cant verify this since when i got my alpine comps. they came with free installation. they installed the tweets in the factory locations on the dash. the door speakers are the mid range.

Prob the easiest way to make the piece for the rear speakers would be with a bandsaw, or another option would be a belt sander. first cut out the baffle out of 1" or thicker mdf and then cut at an angle on the bandsaw. or sand at an angle with the belt sander.

You could prob install comps in the rear as well and you could place the tweeter any where you like. im planning to do comps in the back when i get some $$.

The dash is a factory tweeter but it is an odd shape. I had to cut a piece of wood the shape of the factory one and then mount the tweeter to that. You will also have to run a new speaker wire though the door because I was unable to find the factory split.. The door house a over size 6.5" (6.75"). Pioneer makes them and so does some other companies. If you get the 6.5" you will either hae to make another templete out of wood or buy the plastic conversion.

The rear is 5x7s but again I have cut a shape out of wood that fit the rear and mounted a 5.25" and tweeter in the same factory locations. I never did anything with the angle though. It could be a good idea to work on that in my next project.

Swtnlw, it is ok for me to post that pic you sent me of the rear component mount you custom-made? I wanted to check with you before putting it out for Nozz to take a look at...

Here's a pic of the component custom mount that Swtnlw did. I just bought these speakers from him, and will hopefully be installing them in the next week or so. Don't know how much leeway there is to change the direction of where the speakers are facing, but something to thing about...
