Default iPod connection

Does anyone know of an adapter that would allow me to play an iPod or other MP3 player through the radio? I've got one of those things that lets you broadcast the music to a specific channel, but I'm looking for a direct connection. Just found this site and you all sound like you know what you're doing, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks.

What head unit are you using? My stock one had CD and tape so I could plug in through cassette adapter. The one I have now has an auxiliary input. But I had an old computer so I'm going to hack it to pieces and install it and all my music instead of spending the money to get an iPod, hide it and still have working controls. I think our goals are basically the same though...get a few thousand songs into the car.

I haven't pulled the radio out yet, so I'm not sure what's back there. But it's the stock model on the Turbo (indash CD and cassette). I was thinking there ought to be a way to rig something so that I could use a patch cord like I'm seeing on the new units. I've got an iRock (that broadcasts on a few FM frequencies) and that works OK, but a direct link would be much better.

As an alternative, what aftermarket radios are people installing? I thought I saw where Sony had one with a hard drive, but it was pretty expensive.

I have a Pioneer AM/FM/CD/MP3 unit in now. Obviously, the computer install will be for MP3 into aux. input. For getting sound from PS2 to stereo, I use an FM modulator.

Thanks, I'll check out logjamelectronics. A friend also suggested Blitzsafe.com. I guess they have a CD changer adapter with an aux plug that might do the trick. With the snow we're having here, it might be months before I'm ready to do this anyway.

I brought this up to the factory reps at the PT Blockparty. They had that deer-in-the-headlights look.

I tossed the OEM piece and did the Kenwood X859 last year. I did a lot of research and this one makes me happy... although it doesn't have the aux input (it's an optional plugin).

The IPOD-esque devices are the way to go. Why even bother with a HDD receiver? You can't take the music with you anyway. And with the FM transmitter devivery option, it should be "interesting" to see what kind of screwy things the youngsters will create with THAT.

Just ordered an adapter from Logjam (PIE CHRY02-AUX Auxiliary Input Converter) and we'll see how that works. I'm thinking I might install a jack on the console switch panel and use a patch cord to plug the iPod in. I'll let you know how it turns out.
