i recently bought my pt 3 weeks ago, and attempted to have my after-market stereo installed by my dealer where it was originally purchased. They contracted me out to a local guy because they were just too busy to fit me in unless i wanted to wait weeks. so the local guy installs my stereo, and it worked for 10min on the way home before my mids and highs conked out on me. the deck itself was still running, and the bass was hitting....so i called the local guy and he told me to reset the deck, which i had already, and that didn't fix the problem. when i returned the next day, he made a remark that he didn't relalize there were factory tweeters in the dash, ontop of the after-market tweeters he installed plus the door and rear speakers all running off the amp in the deck. he then instructed me to take my deck back to the dealer and have a technician work out the problem with it.
so, my question is #1, the local guy basically admitted guilt, now if anyone has done any installing, is that an honest mistake to make? not realizing there are hidden speakers? or is this guy a goof? and #2, who should i go after, the dealer for contracting me out to a guy that fried something in my deck that I'M expectd to pay for, or the local guy by asking him to front the cost of the fixed deck?? WHY IS NOTHING EVER SIMPLE!!! |

Your dealer will more than likley send you back to the local guy but I would be sure to start at the dealer 1st and raise hell! What kind of guy did they send you too? It is quite obvious that there are factory tweeters on the dash! I think a new deck is in order!

They sent you to a quack if he didn't realize there were other speakers. Any competent stereo installer would know it and realize they are there and do something about them.

First the tweeters aren't even hidden they are plain as day, as installer you didn't see them shouldn't even own a install shop. But i wish you the best of luck trying to get anyhting out of the dealer or installer.

well i've spent a big chunk of change with the dealer, so we'll see.
i'm still waiting for a phone call from the service dept there... it'll be 2 full weeks tuesday. i'm not chasing anymore. |

Not chasing anymore? You have to! You need to become the ulcer in their gut! If you don't keep after them they will just asume that you went elsewhere and forget about you!

hahhha
well i'm not chasing cause basically they gave me a loaner deck thats the exact same as mine.... so if they want to piss around, i'm ok with that for now maybe they'll forget about me and i'll just keep this one |
