Is what is really sad, is that if you get the in dash 6 disc changer, it is really a cool option and it's hard to imagine getting rid of a perfectly matched CD unit. I wouldn't mid getting all new speakers in place of the real ones and powerering them with a few better amps. If you have the Sirius satallite option, the stations are supposedly pretty clear since they are digital. You get 1 year free with the Dream Cruiser 2, which seems kinda cool.
I'd think about adding a bazooka tube for enhanced low end. You could tuck it away in the back and I'm sure it would hit pretty good. In the 2001, the sound sucked. The speakers rattled and it was horrible with really low end bass. The highs aren't all that bad considering they give you 2 tweeters on the dash but no matter what it's not what they stick in the Lexus SC430.....Stock Mark Levison stuff which sounds excellent. It's crisp and clear and has really decent, accurate bass. They should have options like that in my opinion. If you don't want to go aftermarket, DC should give you some really good options and make people a bit more satisfied. |

I was one of a small few that pressed Q-Logic to make the Q-Forms for the PT. The kickpanel location is a more ideal spot for speaker positioning. Why? If you measure from the driver's headrest to each kickpanel, there is less than 12 inches of difference. If you measure from the driver's headrest to each door, there is several feet of difference. The stereo effect works best when the pathlength difference is 1 foot or less. A great test to prove the theory is to take a portable CD player and a GOOD set of computer speakers and place them in the kickpanel positions. Play something you are familiar with and enjoy. The kickpanel pods were meant to replace the factory locations, not add to them (you can if you want, but why?).
I have replaced my factory CD/cassette in my GT with an Alpine CDA-7897 receiver. It's great! Plays MP3's too! It has a built-in 5 band EQ (adjustable frequencies too!) and a bunch of other stuff. I will be, shortly, adding my new kickpanel speakers, rear speakers, JL Audio Stealthbox (10" subwoofer that fits behind the left rear cargo panel, you won't even know it's there!)and system amplifier. For anyone needing to improve their sound, on a budget in an 03' with the better stock speakers try adding a new head unit with more power. The speakers in my 03 GT really came alive after adding a new unit with extra power! I can even hear the rear speakers which seem much improved over the 01' LE I had...
03' Electric blue GT to many mods to list here check out under bio. Cruise on! |

Just go to ptdoityourself.net and follow recommendations on speakers for the back panels. May PT was a package that had the indasy player taken out, a rebate of 20 bucks. No wonder the person didn't buy it. Anyways, I feel the rear speakers suck. They rattle with the volume on 20 and the bass at 5 on the stock deck. Speakers should alwas handle more then the deck produces, for best sound. You don't want to max the speakers and get the (boounntt sound) you want a nice vibrating bass sound.

Does anyone have experience with the MOPAR subwoofer? It seems like an easy upgrade for a non audiophile like me.

Thanks IRPT. I hate to go on one person's reaction, but since this won't be in the budget for awhile, I'll just watch and listen for now.[?]
