Default improve stereo

I have the stock 2003 Turbo and have the standard cd/radio. What can I do to imrove sound without going crazy with sub woofers and big amps. I would just like a step up, are the speakers in our cars decent, or would replacing the front and rear help, while still leaving the stereo in dash/ thanks all electric heads/ turbomangt

I've found in recent years DC makes pretty decent radios/speakers for their vehicles. My last vehicle was a Dodge Dakota PU with am/fm/cd which sounded good too me. So, to my ears, listening to music with stock speakers would be okay. But, if you want the very best sound, then install after-market quality speakers (with good bass woofers built-in). Think this would be your best route to go for an upgrade at the least cost. If you replace your stereo/cd, you leave yourself open for the thieves--but, no self-respecting thief will break into your PTC to steal a DC stereo to try and sell to a "Chevy or Ford guy".

When buying my GT I spent the extra $150 MSRP to get the optional AM/FM stereo with the 6-disc in-dash CD player because it also included 6 premium speakers which I wanted in order to get the "best" sound.

Good luck.

Turbo,

I have the same unit in my GT and I feel the same way. I look at it this way, replacing the speakers are probably cheaper than replacing the CD player. Then if the sound didn't improve any (I'm sure it will though) I don't think you would have wasted your money because they probably needed replaced in the first place. One step at a time. Just got the Crutchfield catalog and in it for $4.99 they will send you a custom installation master sheet just for your car. If you buy from them within 30 days they will credit you the money back. I'm ordering this tomorrow, cheap enough. I will be replacing the entire stereo anyway but being a little low on funds right now I am betting just the spreaker replacement will tide me over for a while. Good luck.

I've already received my Panasonic AM/FM CD player through Crutchfeild. They send everything you need to do the job at no extra cost. I replaced the stock Rad in the wifes Jeep GC and the speakers just came alive! I bought her a Kenwood that she liked. That's it for her's my new GT will eventually get new speakers too but for now just a new head unit.<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

panasonic eh....

i have a panasonic deck.
never ever again.
looks pretty, sound quality is crap...i was warned too, and the light show mesmerized me.

i had a pioneer deck prior to this one, and i tell ya i'm going back. never had a problem with it, ran beautifully and sounded perfect. the panasonic sounds choppy, mids and highs are usually absent until i have it running at higher volumes. let me know how yours goes, i'm curious to see what your opinion is kgdptblue.

and yes the install was done correctly.

has anyone insulated their pt yet? i'm hoping to get to that in the spring, i have a big hate for rattles.

turbomangt,

sorry for not even responding to your question (oops)

i just went from an after market stereo to the factory pt for 3 weeks before i had my after market installed in it....and for me it wasn't fun. i guess i'm used to the sound mine produces, but i wasn't overly impressed with my pt's factory sound. i had the cd/tape deck and enhanced speakers.

now you're saying "going crazy".....is that money wise or bulk wise? some people avoid stereos for the simple reason that they take up room and they attract unwanted attention. and other people think blowing 5g on a stereo/alarm is retarded....

my opinion is spend money on the deck first, if you're looking to eventually have a full system. and if you're happy with the speakers you have, a good deck will perk up the sound.

Has anyone seen these kicker plate speakers made by Q-logic. At first I thought dang those are sweet, but then again they seem to sit right next to the speaker in the door panel. Also since it sits on the kicker plate I just see myself kicking it every time I get in and out of the drivers seat. What do people think? And is the speaker quality any good?

My salesman told me (if you can beleave a salesman) that the GT upgrade radio with CD and cassete or the one with a CD changer come with Infinity speakers. My guess is the base radio may not. Does yours have 6 speakers?
I have the CD cassete radio. Sounds better than what was in my old car a Acura Integra.

Rash girl, what I meant by Not wanting to go crazy is I've seen people with these huge sub woofers that make your glass move, and enough power to light New York City. I wanted to just maybe improve it a little. If I want to rock, I go in the basement, turn on my 600 watt Carver, with Boston Acoustic speakers, put some cotton in my ears, uncover my drum set, and ROCK THE ROOF! in my car, I tend to be somewhat more lay back, although I like quality sound. catch my drift? turbomangt
