Sirius Receiver install
I've had Sirius Satellite radio in my 02 LE PT since April of 03 and love it. Since we've purchased an 03 Touring Edition in May for my wife, every time we go anywhere in it, we miss Sirius radio.
So, this week I ordered both the receiver($175) and install kit($125) from a Chrysler dealer. I know I could get it a little cheaper online, but didn't want to put up with shipping charges and waiting. I had a dealer install the last one, but wanted to save the $$$ this time.
It's not terribly hard to do, but you must remove a LOT of trim pieces to run the cable from the roof to where the receiver sits, inside the left rear quarterpanel, under the doors, up to the radio in the dash. The scaryest this I had to do is drill a 3/4 inch hole in the roof of the car!!
I took my time, and did the drilling VERY carefully, after a 1 hour rain delay. Sunshine State my BUTT!!!! The kit was pretty well put together, high quality cableing and connectors, wrapped in a protective canvas-like wrap. Included was the typical Chrysler picture directions booklet.
When I was done, I turned on the radio, hit the mode switch and the word "Sirius" popped up, then "updating" while channel 184, their preview channel, played. I went inside called Sirius and activated the receiver in less than 3 minutes. It's $6.99 a month for the additional receiver.
To me, just having NO COMMERCIALS on the music channels makes it worth the trouble ane expense. I've given up on FM in the Tampa Bay area, I remember pre-Sirius going back and forth through ALL my presets(10), and hearing ALL commercials. Now I also listen to CNN and the "Raw Dog" comedy channels as well as my music. Unfortunetly, I know my wife will listen to the 24/7 all Elvis channel now too....
