Default need some help finding a head unit!!!!!!!!!!!

i am looking for this deck: Clarion : DXZ645MP

BUT, i really don't want to pay crutchfield's prices. does anyone know a reputable, and affordable store online that carries this head unit? i still plan on getting the adapters and such from crutchfield.

thanks

Just a quick search but here you go
http://www.sbhcorp.com/scripts/homeViewItem-199.html
you can try http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?...p&svbnam e=16 also. I have bought camera stuff from them and had no problems.

Give E-bay a try, there are reputable dealers that use E-bay as a way to reach consumers.

wow, bigdogdad. those are good prices did you buy from the first set of guys???

i love ebay, don't get me wrong. BUT i am more worried about warrenty on the head unit - most ebay auctions only list a 90 day warrenty compared to a one or two year warrenty if bought from an online store

No, didn't buy from the first guys. They got good ratings. This is where charge cards come in handy, if you have a problem they help you out. You got to be careful on shipping charges, some will have a good price on the product then charge a fortune on shipping. Good luck. Yeah, much better price then Crutchfield. I'd give either vendor a call, they might even have the harness and other needed goodies, worth a try, one stop shopping is always nice.

Nice choice on the deck, I just put the same model in the PT a couple of days ago! Love the sound (NIGHT and DAY difference from the stock deck), and the look fits the cruiser. I went with eBay for my new speakers (Kickers), but went with crutchfield for the deck. I wanted the great two year warranty Clarion gives you (vs. a year from Alpine, etc) and heard the only online retailer to give you the factory authorized warranty was crutchfield. But yeah, eBay and a lot of the other online dealers have some great prices, and some supposedly have warranties of their own. I figured that the head unit might be the most likely component to have problems, so I played it conservatively (and $$$) with Crutchfield.

the crimping was a bit tedious, but crutchfield gave explicit directions with the harness they throw in for free (well, you pay for it with thier higher prices of course). the clarion instructions are also relatively clear. It was time consuming making sure the harness instructions and the clarion instructions matched. Two problems I had was... on the clarion they have a purple wire, and a purple/black wire... only thing the purple is so dark, you can't see the black stripe, even with a magnifying glass. (unless they wired mine wrong and gave me two purple wires). Finally just picked one, figured it was 50-50 and if the rear speaker didn't work, I would know. the other thing was two yellow wires for power on the deck (one for memory, one for overall power, both with fuses) and only one yellow wire on the harness. Did some research, and seemed it was ok to splice the two yellow deck wires into the one yellow harness wire. This stuff is probably no big deal for most folks, but the last car deck I installed was, um, an 8 track, so I'm a bit behind the times!

I ordered Kicker speakers as my first attempt at upgrading the stock stereo... it didn't really do much with the stock head unit (doesnt have the power to drive them I guess). Many folks say replacing the head unit should be your first step, and on another forum, some folks said they were surprised how good the stock speakers sounded with a new head unit.
