I just installed a used JLAudio Sealthbox and Alpine 200W mono amp in my GT. I used the stock head unit to the amp's speaker input. I'm very satisfied with the results. I guess that if I listened to hip-hop, and wanted to set off car alarms in the next block it might not be enough.[ ] Anything more would be too much in my opinion. The Deftones and Korn kick pretty well now.[?]I wired the amp turn on lead to switched power. I would have rather had it turn on with the stereo, but there's no wire in the stock harness for the antenna turn on function. I could get a pin for that connector from a dealer so I can add that, but I have the stereo on all of the time anyway. |

the radio should have a red / white wire. this is a + switch wire

I wired the amp to switched power so that it's only on in the run or accessory position. What would be ideal is to have it run only when the stereo is turned on. There's usually a power antenna turn on lead for that, but I don't think the wire is there. If that's what you meant by the red/wht wire maybe I should take another look into it. Let me know.
Thanks.

The diagram that I have shows the red / white as switched power. If you are looking for a trigger lead, what voltage will the device that you are wanting to trigger take?

There is an antenna turn on pin in the stock radio. A pin and wire can be added to the stock harness to mate with it. I saw an aftermarket power antenna installation instruction show that. To me it's not worth the trouble. I don't hear any noise from the subwoofer when the stereo is off, so I can live with it turning off by the ignition switch.
If I install an aftermarket head unit I'd wire the amp turn on lead to the antenna wire at that time. I'd use the line level inputs on the amp as well. I'm kind of addicted to having the in-dash CD changer though. I'm not enthusiastic about losing that, and I can't see placing a CD changer somewhere else in the car. There's not a lot of room for that.

I know what you mean about our changer...I felt the same way until I put the rockford MP3 head unit in... I can get about 140 songs on one CD

I put a Holley AirMax exhaust system on my wife's Civic that will set off every motion sensor in a parking garage. It is way too loud! She won't let me do that again, but for her next car she wants a Magnum so she's alright with me.
