GTCruiser2003, I noticed you have your cowl weatherstrip removed. A guy on another forum did some temp tests and discovered with the weatherstrip removed the engine and the turbo run hotter. With the weatherstrip installed the air does not escape and is forced down to circulate over the engine and the turbo. I and a lot of others put their weatherstrip back on and you should to so you don't shorten the life of your turbo.....Also, not to rain on your parade, but why would you want to mount a computer in your PT? I do just fine bringing my laptop with me in my PT. Besides, knowing a bit about computers and my wife being a computer tech, computer technology goes out of date so fast it isn't funny.

I'm a Network system administrator & computer consultant. I also deal with computers. I like toying with the idea of putting a computer in, for 1, I don't have to bring my laptop in with me all the time.

Actually, with the operating systems and software available now, last years computers are sufficient enough to run them. You only need faster systems if you plan to do Audio/Video editing, Graphic design, or if you want to run business systems. I'm sure GTCruiser2003, isn't planning for any of the above. Most "CarPuters" are actually used mainly for listening to MP3s. Where else can you store almost millions of songs in a limited amount of space. With him installing a Wi-Fi card, he would just have to park it in the garage, download music from the internet or his computer at home, and can listen to days and days of his favorite music, commercial free.

For my purpose, I will mainly be using it with my DigiMoto software. With me being a computer geek, I always need to read my emails or access the internet. I have my own computer network with several computers at home, ranging from a desktop with Pentium II 450Mhz to a laptop with Intel Celeron 1.4Ghz. I can use any of them for general purpose (Surfing, emails, viewing photos, etc.), but only use my laptop for editing photos or burning DVDs.

i didnt know about the new developments on the weatherstip theory. too bad i dont know where it is now. and as C.E. said, im not planning on doing anything major with the comp in the car. i currently have like 500 mp3, and thats just the ones i had time to get on the hdd before work one day. the comp will serve my needs well, hell, i dont even use my home pc to its full potential(2.8gh p4 with HT) i mainly use it for surfing the web and watching movies. sometimes for video and picture editing. and i know about comp tech going out of date fast. i think my new comp was out of date like 1 month after i bought it. i did it mainly for the fact that not many people can say they have computers in their cars(im the only person that does that i know)

damn why am i still on here at 5 in the morning???

Yeah, thanks to you on your "CarPuter" mod, you got me staying up late researching on in car computers.

I have to see, which of my computers I can take apart so I can fit it in the passenger storage compartment.

I actually bought 2, DigiMoto and AutoTap. I couldn't decide which one was better so I am trying both, since I have a 30 day return policy.

Out of the box, I like DigiMoto, since you can start using it right away and it has the Dyno & 1/4 track run. Autotap has nice graphics, but needs some configuring to get started. They don't have sample configs for you to start with, which they should. The nice thing about Autotap is you can configure gauges to monitor air intake temp, and such. You can even set tach and have it alarm everytime you reach your favorite shift point, so you know when to shift.

Muahaha... the 12" touchscreen i got off ebay is here, and is in the process of being molded into the center bessel.gonna relocate the HU to the top of the dash, and the buttons underneath will be moved down on the new fiberglass bessel. also integrating an A/V selector to switch between the PS2, X-Box, and comp.

Mean Green the point of removing the strip is to get cold air from outside to go in, not for the hot air to escape. As long as cool air is going in, then there must be hot air escaping somewhere else, like under the car. Tape small pieces of yarn to the cowl and windshield area to see the airflow characteristics.

Ed, CELERON! c'mon man

Well for the MP3 playing in my rig i went with the iPod connected through a 420i interface to my Alpine 9835 Ai-net, it lets me control all the functions on the iPod through the headunit and charges it too. Not a real big fan of the MP3 anyway, the sound quality sucks, just cant beat the old CD for good sound

anyway it is cool to see you guys putting these computers in, for $79.00 a month you can get wireless internet almost anywhere and dont have to glom off of someone elses
